Visited here to shelter from the rain on a long distance walk, and were warmly greeted despite muddy feet and dripping cagoules. Amazing hot chocolate & lovely cakes, at reasonable prices. Drinks came with free home-made ginger biscuits. Free Easter eggs for the children. My son (age 13) declared that it was the best restaurant he's ever been to!

This gorgeous hotel nestles discretely in the beautiful hamlet of Thwaite in Swaledale and is a true revelation: the front door opens into a small bar with a real fire and real ale and it just gets better; beautifully appointed warm and tasteful rooms, comfortable living rooms with roaring fires and a quality restaurant. The owners are very kind and... More

Again even with new owners ( Paul and Wendy) the Hotel has not change, still great, even after many years visiting twice a year. Not to mention Elsie the main stay of the place, she never changes always cheerful and helpful, the quality of the food also has to be eaten to be believed. We are a party of 4 people... More

Stayed four nights at this understated hotel, where the owners and all the staff offered a quality of service that surpassed the tariff. The situation of the hotel overlooks the fells with sheep and cattle grazing. A wonderful place to take a breath far from the madding crowd. Highly recommended.

Excellent lunch-time stop for soup and sandwiches for the family. Good value, nice atmosphere, well presented and friendly, relaxed staff. Car parking at rear of the hotel. Room rates seem reasonable as well. Dinner menu looks a bit more expensive but definitely worth a try, if nothing else just for the atmosphere .

Visited Thwaite with my wife and brother in law, who 50 years ago spent many holidays there. The Kearton Coffee shop presented the ideal opportunity to stop and "remember" We had very basic snacks, cream tea, bacon sandwich and a cheese scone, served with a wedge of wensleydale cheese. The food was delicious, the service efficient and friendly and the... More

My mother and I stayed here for a few days last month and had a wonderful time. I had used this hotel in the past more than once, whilst walking. It was good then, but is now much better. The room was lovely and clean, with comfortable beds, a large bathroom and a view to die for. The breakfasts and... More
