We stayed for one night's dinner, bed and breakfast. The room was fine, bit scruffy in places but spotlessly clean and all the bits and bobs you could want. Plenty of teas, cafetière type coffee, hairdryer, loads of hangers etc etc. (It also passed my 'hairdryer/mirror' test - the hairdryer could be plugged in near to a mirror. We've stayed... More

Traditional food executed with great care. Furnished with flair in a way that tastefully updates the traditional Yorkshire Dales country feel. Highlight was venison cooked perfectly, homemade ravioli of beef and scrummy puds.

We've been to the General Tarleton several times, and it never disappoints. The chef is inventive and leads a great front-of-house team. The seafood 'moneybags' starter is clever and tasty. My vegetarian main course of butternut squash ravioli was delicious. Didn't need the dessert of rhubarb 'three ways' but I couldn't resist. Great breakfasts with nice touches like a locally... More

I could give higher praise for the way we were treated with my niece who is tetraplegic. Good food, good wine list, and excellent service. High class quality décor and ample parking. Just watch out for speed traps near this place.

What a find! One of the best places we have stayed. Location is lovely and quiet. Decor in both public areas and bedrooms is quality, interesting and beautiful. Food is imaginative & delicious and staff are excellent. Of particular mention Guiseppe who was just delightful. So reasonably priced too. Will definitely return.

We visited this weekend for a work party where we had a private room and amazing tasting menu that had been specially created. Downstairs bar is very warm and toasty with beautiful furniture, warm log burner and lots of local magazines which set the night off perfectly! We had a room provided as well, it was a beautiful en suite... More

Although the choices on the a la carte menu provided more to ponder on, the three course Christmas offering at £25 each was an excellent choice. As usual with many Yorkshire establishments, you are served Yorkshire portions so ensure you are hungry. Seafood Moneybag - singular - well it would be - it was huge. Full of different items. Absolutely... More

We had to go to Knaresborough and arranged to meet friends from Leeds for a pre- Christmas lunch. The GT was fairly quiet with half a dozen or so diners and we were seated at a very nice window table. The place was warm and very comfortable and had a nice atmosphere. Service was prompt and very friendly, we were... More

Was looking forward to a great Sunday lunch here, and the food (lovely rare beef) was superb, however the arrogance and dismissive attitude of he senior staff was dreadful and I won't be going again - far too many other great places to eat in he area! Tip - learn to smile and it would be a better world!

The room was well furnished and very comfortable and after we had unpacked we were invited to take complimentary tea or coffee in the lounge. Nice touch. The service from all the staff was excellent and the attention to detail was very much appreciated. There was a good choice of food and the quality of the dishes served was excellent.... More
