Unfortunately, the rib eye steak left a lot to be desired! Aside the excess fat which perhaps could not be helped, it was under-seasoned and disappointing! The hollandaise sauce was thicker than butter (and a bit bland), the vegetables undercooked, and all the other guests were very unimpressed with their braised shoulder of lamb! The general manager was very accommodating... More

I booked a night away and meal for my husband as a surprise having had The General Tarleton recommended by several people. Upon arrival we were greeted to complimentary coffee which was a nice touch. We were then shown to our room. We had room 7 on the ground floor, it didn’t have a nice view but we were not... More

We stayed at the General Tarleton for one night to break a lengthy south to north journey up the A1 in August this year. It’s very well located for that, about 5 minutes off the A1, with a large apparently safe car park. We were very pleasantly surprised when we walked into the pub. It’s nicely furnished, and incredibly welcoming.... More

I have been many times and always enjoyed the food but unfortunately this time was not up to standard, the market menu whilst good value did not live up to usual standards especially as the spinach had not been washed thoroughly and was very gritty spoiling the meal. Service was slow and not up to standard and no one asked... More

We visited for Sunday lunch last week. First of all it was a very hot day which is no-one's fault but we were in an alcove which had no air circulating so we were all flaking out by the end of the meal. It was my father's 65th birthday treat and none of us had ever been before but it... More

Once in a while you find a hotel about which you cannot speak too highly - and this is one. The staff are very professional and welcoming. A special mention for the Assistant Manager, Zsolt, (from Hungary) who is a real star. The food was tip top and well up to Michelin standard with a wide choice. The facilities are... More

This was our first visit and can honestly say it will not be our last. From the moment we arrived and was greeted in Reception, to the time we had to leave, all the staff was extremely attentive, helpful and most courteous...nothing was too much trouble. Our room was spacious and had everything in it which we needed including a... More

This was our second visit as it is very conveniently located as a stopover when travelling from Scotland to London. Rooms are in a modern extension and are well sized and very comfortable complete with tea making facilities and home made biscuits. WiFi works well in the room too. The lounge is situated in the old stone walled part of... More

A quite fabulous place run by customer service professionals, and with a kitchen that makes it a piority stay anywhere in North or West Yorkshire. Rooms in the accomodation are all spotless and well appointed, the bar/pub atmosphere is genuine (unlike many off road hostelrys) and the restaurant is frankly superb. Prices should suit any business traveller in the region,... More

I visit here annually when at Harrogate show. It never fails to impress. This year white crab meat lasagne starter in chive buerre blanc - delicate and delicious. Fish pie for main. Treacle tart to finish. Beer and coffee £40. Not cheap but worth it. See you next year.
