This is my favourite restaurant by far. Had lunch here with friends and yet again great food, wonderful surroundings, friendly efficient staff. All in all a great treat. The lunchtime menu is varied with light dishes or more substantial fare. The scallops are delicious and I has fish for my main course which was also very good. The taste of... More

Olly, the guy at Leeds Farmers Market where I buy his whole hog sausages suggested a visit to The General Tarleton. After shopping at Knasborough market I hopped on the bus to the village of Ferrensby 3 miles awy and alighted at the village pond with its reed beds and armada of ducks. Round the corner sits an 18th Century... More

We had our valentines dinner here and this was our third time. Both the rooms and the restaurant are nicely laid out. Food is' top class' we enjoyed and loved every bit of it. Only apart from the fire alarm that was set off during the night.

We stayed here as part of a dinner, bed and breakfast deal with some friends. The actual hotel is lovely and clean and very well furnished and decorated. Rooms are a good size and very comfortable. There is a very nice lounge where we had complimentary tea after our long 4 hour drive. Actual dinner is very good indeed. Service... More

Leisurely drive on way to Harrogate, remembered many years ago, having a business lunch here. Light lunch for both, was excellent with pleasant surroundings and staff, Every assistance provided on choice of my wife's glass of wine, slightly surprised however at the cost of £9.30.

After several years we returned to the the General Tarlton and we're pleased that we did. We have always enjoyed our stays here and the food has always been excellent. We arrived on a miserable winters day to a warm welcome and immediately offered tea in the lounge. Our room was welcoming, clean and of a reasonable size. The restaurant... More

Amazing food, group of 9 ranging from 2 years to 72, attention to detail from staff was brilliant from start to finish and really made me and my little boy feel at ease. Nothing was too much trouble. Food was brilliant and the children's brought out with the starters which helped keep them entertained and also full... A first time... More

slightly judgemental, patronising staff when checking into the b&b, the rooms were nice... Not very modern and the tv was about 13", so pretty useless. The hallway was very creaky and you could hear, well, everything going on in the next door rooms. There was a cute fresh milk fridge in the hall way, which didn't get topped up maybe... More

If you need a good meal while travelling up the A1 north of Leeds this Hotel and Restaurant is outstanding. The Chef is first class and staff are kind and courteous. Hotel Rooms are comfortable with large double beds. This hotel is family run and does not suffer from penny pinching attitudes

Stunning, quaint little hotel with great décor and very nicely furnished and decent size rooms. Staff was all very friendly and the service we got was good. The food (both in the restaurant and the breakfast) was excellent. Their home-made black pudding is the best I have ever tasted! They pay attention to detail and it shows. I would certainly... More
