Our last stop-over on our holiday in the Highlands, heading home to Kent, this is conveniently situated for the A1M. A warm welcome in reception, immaculate but atmospheric decor in an individual hotel. Dinner was superb, fine dining at its best, I shall never know how I had room for a cooked breakfast as well! The only downside was our... More

Me and my wife stayed here for are 2nd wedding anniversary. We dined in the restaurant in the evening. Everything was spot on. I would highly recommended the Peach Melba is it truly unbelievable! All In all a brilliant experience. Think we'll make this a yearly treat. Thank you to the GT.

We did not stay but held a dinner party for friends in the restaurant. The welcome and the service were faultless and the food and choice excellent. All the staff we met were charming and helpful and added to the pleasure of our meal.

Well,I do not think I can praise this hotel enough, it was a last minute find on late rooms, FANTASTIC value for money indeed, this must be one of the best kept secrets around Knaresborough......I was working in the area and once I arrived I invited some friends who live local, we had a very relaxing evening indeed, the reception... We enjoyed our stay at The General Tarleton, it is a country Inn furnished to a very high standard, food is first class but a little on the expensive side, staff all 100%. the only small problem is that we were in room 7, as mentioned before furnished to a very high standard but, unfortunately, delivery lorries started to arrive... We only stayed one night as a stop over as we were travelling from the south up to Scotland and will certainly stay here again next time we are passing. Our bedroom was extremely comfortable and couldn't be faulted. There were even home made biscuits. Even though it was Saturday night and the restaurant was full, the service was excellent.... More

I love staying at this Inn. The rooms are small but tastefully decorated. The bathrooms are well equipped and modern. But the ace in hand is the fantastic restaurant. The staff are attentive and the wine waiter is very knowledgeable. The food is fantastic and reasonably priced. Even the breakfast is something to look forward too. Would recommend that if... More

This was our third visit to the General Tarleton which has been renovated since our last stay. The room and en suite bathroom were splendid with very comfortable beds and spotlessly clean. The Manager made us most welcome and offered assistance with our luggage. We had booked by email and I mentioned that my wife particularly liked the Smoked Haddock,... More

We booked a mid week deal for our wedding anniversary and also ate in the restaurant. The rooms were well appointed and clean and the bed offered a comfortable nights sleep. Nice touches were fresh milk in a little communal fridge in the corridor and homemade cookies. Dressing gowns in the rooms would be a nice touch but there is... More

Took a friend here for a birthday supper. Haven't been probably for 20 years. It is wonderful. The food was exquisite, the interior calm, beautifully laid out and decorated. The staff were attentive but not intrusive. Best of all it was value for money - I had three courses, my friend two (cheapest mains I will point out), a soft... More
