Our first visit. As locals, wish we had found this gem of a pub earlier. The chef (the landlord) immediately identified us as "newbies' and made himself known, even offering my husband tasters of guest beer. Was made to feel very welcome. Great atmosphere, an abundance of local characters, and good beer! Looking forward to a repeat experience.

Had lunch with my wife here today. Ordered steak and ale pie with new potatoes. Expected vegetables with it, which is what you normally get in this area, taking advantage of fresh local produce. Instead we just got peas. Dissapointing. Considering we paid over £8 each. Surely we could have had some vegetables. I won't be eating here again and... More

We just popped in on the way but can't believe the number of positive reviews for a very run down place. Though staff were friendly behind the bar, the food was the worst I've ever encountered. The Spaghetti Bolognese coontained grey meat and the chips I was served were inedible - both burnt to black, cold and soggy. Were they... More

A fantastic afternoon for all my family, celebrating my birthday with a carvery. The staff were both courteous and efficient and the food was outstanding. I would definitely recommend it to anyone, with top quality ingredients, excellent value and a lovely, rural ambience that made it such an enjoyable day.

We have just come home after staying in the bull hotel, a lovely place and very central to the town. Tim, the manager greeted us like old friends and showed us to our room, which was lovely. We went to the bar and had a very nice meal. All the staff were very friendly and chatty. Good advice given on... More

We stayed here November 1st & 2nd (Fri & Sat night), and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. As the title suggests....give it a chance! I really thought I'd dropped one as we arrived but after looking round the place it didn't seem too bad. We had a stroll round the area and sampled a few beers here and there and are... More

We had booked a twin bedded room for one night. When we arrived, we found this was in fact a small family room with a double bed and a single bed against a wall where I presume the table with the tea and coffee making things etc normally went, as the plug was in the wall in the middle of... More

We stayed here for one night late September had a few problems with poor levels of service. We complained to the manager the following morning, feeling very disappointed. The manager could not have been more helpful. He was polite and courteous and apologetic. He made a point of rectifying the problems we'd had immediately, which as it turned out had... More
