We were three couples staying one night over a weekend last month. We arrived late afternoon hungry and disappointed to be told there was no chef in kitchen (despite advertising all day food). However the receptionist said she would see what she could do and a plate of cheeses and crackers was duly delivered to the bar a short time... More

This place is a class act. I was a real fuss pot for a special dinner for two and they were patient and calm and they really delivered. Food was good. Beef to share for two was straight of the scene in Tom Jones and was very well cooked and good quality. And I stayed in the hotel . Lovely... More

On a recent one night stay we seemed to be amongst the very few guests, so were not aware of any defects in sound-proofing of the bedrooms. Our room was small but in perfect condition - we could have been the first people to stay in it after refurbishment. Tasteful decoration throughout internally - in contrast to the rather naff... 6 of us stayed here over New Year for 2/3 nights. It's a lovely old inn carefully and thoughtfully refurbished and modernised so as to retain its ancient charm and provide a bright and very pleasant restaurant at the back. Lyddington is a gorgeous village situated in outstanding country side great for walkers/cyclists and not overrun with visitors. The food... More

I've been here lots of times, and last night we had a Christmas do here and it was a lovely evening. I have never had a bad meal here, the rib of beef to share is a carnivore's dream, the dessert menu is always fantastic, the menu seasonal and well thought out. The staff are always friendly and accomodating. I... More

4 of us went for Sunday lunch. The service was ridiculously slow making our meal last an eternity. Drinks took for ever and had to get up from table a few times to grab a waiter for a top up. Our daughter accidentally spilt her juice and when we told a waiter, he actually brought us serviettes to clean the... More

We were travelling back from Devon and stopped over at the Marquess to break up our journey....well what a great choice! We have had a fantastic meal - starters were gorgeous and then the lamb main (shared dish) was just devine and just melted in your mouth! Coupled with a lovely, comfortable room and really friendly staff this made it... More

I took my group on a 4 day visit to Rutland and surrounding counties and we stayed at the Marquess of Exeter. I was given very reasonable rates for such a high standard hotel. My husband and I stayed in the accommodation next door and that was very comfortable. It was a great choice as I had no complaints at... More

Great hotel in a picture postcard village. My room overlooked the garden and was modern well appointed and quiet. Accommodation in not in main building but across the car park. Brollies provided if raining! Breakfast was superb And check out quick and efficient. I had a problem with my bedroom door handle which was sorted quickly and the room was... More
