Booked this hotel online without reading any reviews. We were visiting Conkers nearby and also fancied having a walk around the castle. I had asked for our 2 rooms to be close to each other. Not the case, but that was rectified when I requested the receptionist to change one of them. Rooms did look a bit worn out. One... More

Stayed here for a friends 40th, Room was very tired and hotel is dated. I asked for some ice at reception at about 5pm and they said the bar was closed until later so they could not help me...I am sure they could have got me some ice - i was not asking to be served a drink? Other than... More

We've had our wedding reception at Royal Hotel Ashby on the 07/01/2015 and everything was amazing! We are so happy with the venue, with our wedding menu and the service on the night. The wedding planner Tracey helped us with everything from planning to decorating the room on the day. She made our day perfect! Thank you so much about... More

Oh how I wish I'd got my act together and booked my usual hotel in this town at only £10 more than I paid for this one. Other reviews have described The Royal as "tired" or "run down" but these comments are still extremely generous. The whole place is dire and around 10 years past the point of needing a... More

Probably a wonderful hotel in its day - which sadly was a long time ago The hotel is shabby, tired, and not suitable for modern travellers Wifi is patchy and unreliable - the router needs rebooting most nights of the week and this can take up to an hour Triple glazing means that rooms at the front of the hotel... Lovely old building but my room although had lovely clean linen was screaming for some modernisation! Shower leaked, toilet bubbles throughout the night, windows not wind proof and all furniture was on it's last legs! Last who checked us in couldn't have been nicer, she was chatty and welcoming and although the bar was closed managed to sweet talk her... More

I stayed here on a business trip and whilst the outside looked welcoming the inside was a let down. The curtains in the room didn't cover the window and were partially hanging off. The shower wasn't big enough to stand in and close the shutter. The mattress sagged in the middle from years of use. When I needed a hairdryer... More

Read reviews first they weren't good but every where else was booked so staying for work so thought we'd give it a go. The room was terrible! We just ended up laughing! Carpet stained, television continually rolling ( it was late 80s circa ) when you walked in front of it the volume went down banged the front it went... More
