What was once a great hotel is now a hotel that has been in demise for a while. Looks like the current owners have a 'make do and mend' attitude. Carpets with duct tape to cover patches. Broken windows, tired furniture, no proper shower, just a hose from hot and cold tap, poor wifi which was not available in our... More

A tired looking Hotel which needs a huge revamp to get it up to a high standard. Some rooms have been upgraded but a lot more work needs to be done, the staff are brilliant, breakfast was very good, sadly the Hotel just scrapes in as a 3 star B/B. We were lucky to have had an upgraded room but... More

The room we were given for a 2 night stay was very shabby, dated with a hard, uncomfortable bed (similar to continental holiday accommodation). The architecture was stunning but peeling paintwork. Hotel was rather contradictory - cheap sausages but probably the best bacon I have had in a hotel! Staff were very friendly and probably keep the hotel going. Location... More

After first visit in 2014 which was bad revisited booking a rerfurbished room.Got that It is now B and B. Room was very good bearing in mind it is £60 (£50 plus vat) breakfast served in room with no extra charge. Would certainly have paid more for the night anyway.

This is very tired. Threadbare carpets on the stairs; peeling wallpaper; stains from leaks on the room ceilings and a big iron burn in the carpet in the room. There is no restaurant; which i didn't find out about until I arrived; but it is cheap. The staff are friendly and helpful and coupled with the price gets 2 stars.

We didnt stay here but called in for an afternoon tea with a group of others. The food was rather ordinary as was the small room into which we were directed. The scones were rather small and dry although the sandwiches were fine.

Like many early to mid 19th century English hotels of its kind, this place has no doubt seen grander times. There's a lot of potential here but both inside and out the general impression is of an old lady in need of a tonic. The furnishings and carpets are tired throughout and our room was average with a rattling window... More

Booked this hotel online without reading any reviews. We were visiting Conkers nearby and also fancied having a walk around the castle. I had asked for our 2 rooms to be close to each other. Not the case, but that was rectified when I requested the receptionist to change one of them. Rooms did look a bit worn out. One... More
