Stayed here with my husband for a Shakespeare evening , arrived to find we had been allocated a suite, which was sumptuous to say the least, 2 bedrooms, tv / lounge area , large wet-room with jacuzzi bath, dining area, office area , king sized master suite with en-suite. Welcome was warm , location ideal just off the A59. Country... more

We left pretty disappointed and I have to question the other reviews. This hotel should be so much better than it is and is in need of a good makeover. The rooms are very basic not boutique and whilst some of the staff were friendly enough, others were pretty incompetant. A full blown disco was going on downstairs the night... more

Stayed on a short break with my wife - staff are brilliant, nothing too much trouble. Food is exquisite and served with panache. Even the breakfast was a treat, with extras of everything - free! Location is lovely, rolling lancashire countryside and utter peace and quiet. Historic old English country house. Cannot recommend highly enough - absolute heaven more

Some friends and I decided we needed a break and booked for a long weekend away in this fabulous country hotel in the rolling Lancashire countryside. Afternoon tea of homemade sandwiches, scones and cake, sitting on the patio admiring the view gave us a taste of what would follow. We certaintly were not diasappointed. The hotel is most of the... more

The tone was set within minutes of arrival - complimentary home made scones with butter, jam, clotted cream and tea/coffee in front of an real log fire. Mmm, bring on the rest. The staff were welcoming and friendly throughout, happily telling us about the refurbishments at the hotel and the wildlife which can be seen in the grounds (including two... more

I have stayed in lots of hotels and travel lodges over the past few years but by far stirk house wasnt just one of the best, it was THE BEST. My daughter got married there on 12th July 2008 and the day went absolutely perfect, all the staff at stirk house went out of their way to make my daughters... more

We arrived mid afternoon and we were given our key to the room. It was pooring with rain and were offered no help with finding the room or help with luggage, we had a small baby in arms and no help at all offered with anything. No explanations about leisure facilities or dining arrangements. The room was terrible so we... more

We attended a wedding here and it's a conveyor belt for them! The room was ready well before the check-in time of 2pm and as we walked up the stairs to the rooms the corridors smelt damp and mouldy. The room itself was pretty small even though we had requested a family room. As all rooms were taken we couldn't... more

The food was good and the public rooms fine but I have to agree about the bedrooms with some of the less comlimentary comments..it could do with a good clean and a bit of fresh paint. more

After a recent operation i decided a stay in the country was in order, this hotel was recommended to me by a friend who had attended a wedding there the previous summer. i can honestly say I'm glad she did! From the moment I arrived I was made to feel at home, the staff seemed eager to please. I did... more
