Wonderful hotel, good food/wine and delightful rooms, all individually decorated with extremely comfortable beds. Try and get a room overlooking the river. Nothing was too much trouble for the charming staff. Sandwich is an easy town to explore on foot and there are a number of longer, well signposted walks around the area. We only stayed for a weekend but... more

This was very nearly a great hotel, but unfortunately was let down poor management. Individually all the staff were pleasant and helpful, but nobody seemed to know quite what their role was. For example, at breakfast either everybody tried to take your order or you were left to your own devices until you intercepted one of them, that was of... more

Thank you for your comments. I am disappointed to hear that you felt the service at Breakfast in our Restaurant was not up to our usual high standard during your stay with us and I will ensure this is addressed immediately. The Carpet leading up the stairs and on the Landing was replaced earlier this year and is cleaned on...

I have just returned from a 2 night stay at the Bell with my parents. They had stayed before 2 years ago and were a little fearful about the food in particular. I had attended a School in Sandwich and wondered how the place itself might have changed over 30 years. Fortunately, change was major on one front and minor... more

Went on their 'winter blues' offer for £180 for two people for two nights including breakfast and dinner on one night. I think this was fab value! The hotel is a nice old red brick building down by the river - it's been extended and modernised a little but in the main this has been done very sympathetically and the... more

The hotel is clean and comfortable with a decor which won't offend anybody and friendly staff, however the best thing about it is the food. We ate dinner in the hotel and the roast lamb and chocolate pudding ( it's called something much more exotic on the menu) were superb. The locally smoked kipper for breakfast was pretty good too.... more

We did not stay at the hotel but ate there on Sunday with friends who were visiting the area. We were the only people in there at lunchtime which was quite strange although a few more people came in later. The staff were not overly friendly and the assistant manager seemed very pompous and expressionless. He spilt my gravy but... more

With our twelve year old daughter spending Christmas with her big sister in Denmark we decided on a Christmas getaway for just the two of us - something we had never done in 14 years of marriage. Driving from the Netherlands we decided that a hotel fairly close to the UK end of the Tunnel would be ideal. We searched... more

Recently got back from a 2 day break in Sandwich and thought I should share the experience of the wonderful Bell hotel. New husband and 2 children 12 and 8 (have forgotten their names) set off for usual winter break between christmas and new year. This year having run out of places on the south east coast (hubby does not... more

We enjoyed a weekend break at The Bell for £229, this included two nights stay, Saturday and Sunday night with A La Carte dinner for the Sat night included. The Hotel is in a prime location on the Quay. The staff are very friendly and polite and the hotel seems to be ran in a very efficient and professional manner.... more

My parents and I stayed here for two nights for a much needed weekend away, and we had an awesome time. Although the hotel is pricey, you won't be disappointed. My single room was more like a double, it was nicely decorated and had a pretty view over towards the canal. The shower was excellent - the only thing lacking,... more
