You walk in to be greeted by a cosy bar, with olde worlde charm (complete with suit of armour!), and friendly staff. The bistro feels like being in an Elizabethan hall, welcoming without being up itself, with good food and wine (great by British hotel standards!). You walk up well lit winding stairs and corridors, again full of olde worlde... more

Beautiful location, Martin and his staff could do no more to make my husbands birthday one that we'll never forget. The food was excellent, The breakfast in bed was a great treat And the room was very comfortable and clean I haven't a clue why anyone could give this hotel a bad review Mr & Mrs John more

We were disappointed with this hotel. Firstly, when you walk in, it's not clear who you should talk to - the bar staff, the reception staff or staff floating about. It's not a warm welcome. Then our room turned out to be so small you could hardly walk around the bed. It was also extremely hot, and close to the... more

Stayed in Azure (a supposed king-sized bed which didn't look that large to me) for my cousin's wedding. It was supposed to be a treat staying in a boutique hotel & the website looked wonderful. The reality was sadly far from wonderful. Greeted by a half-hearted waitress as the reception is a tiny office which had no one in it.... more

We were 'welcomed' at recption by a young girl with a mouth full of food - apparently she was in the middle of her dinner... She then showed us up 3 flights of stairs to our room, but did not help us with any of our bags, and we also had an 18-month-old baby to carry, as there is no... more

We stayed at the George a couple of weeks ago and found it just as it was advertised - a charming old hotel! It's had a bit of a 'tart up', which really didn't bother me too much, but overall the old character still shines through. We had a twin room which was adequate in terms of space; well heated;... more

We tried to book our honeymoon in September at The George. The Internet said we had a booking - a week or so before our wedding a phone check with the hotel said we hadn't! The hotel desk acknowledges that they have a (current) problem with their internet booking system, so doublecheck. We gave it a second try for my... more

We stayed at the George for a wedding anniversary night away from the kids - we only live about half an hour away. It was perfect for what we wanted. BRASSERIE LUNCH We ate a delicious lunch in the bar/brasserie area - it was busy with a nice atmosphere. The shepherds pie and the fish & chips were beautifully and... more

My husband and I went to the George to celebrate his birthday. It was a wonderful room, very romantic. The building dates back to the 14th century so although the floor was uneven it all added to the charm. The Brasserie restaurant was amazing, the menu was extensive and so was difficult to decide what to eat, it was all... more

Stayed in The George again last week having previously stayed there a number of times. We have always enjoyed staying there - having decided that this was somewhere we wanted to return to. While the stay was pleasant I am afraid that it did not match up to previous visits before the hotel became part of Shepherd Neame. Where previously... more
