We ate at the George twice, once with a big group including masses of kids and once on our own.The setting encompasses all that is idyllic about the isle of white , beach front, plenty to gaze at with a very stylish gloss that is more common in Devon and Cornwall than here to be honest. The service couldn't have... More

We stayed here for two nights with friends, leaving our boat in the harbour. The refurb has not lost any of the old charm, and the new restaurant and garden bar work very well. In particular the new menu and sensibly priced wine list worked very well. Need to book at weekends in particular. The staff were great, friendly and... More

Our last hotel after a cycle trip around the Island and talk about saving the best to last. The hotel had looked after our luggage for a couple of nights while we toured the Island and on arrival the reception staff were very friendly. We stayed in room 28 which has sea views to the side, the marina and to... More

We enjoyed an excellent short break with friends recently. The George is a wonderful building with great character - the flowers in the stone flagged hall made for a stunning entrance. Our room was very well equipped and scrupulously clean, our bed extremely comfortable. The breakfast was delicious - tasty fresh ingredients. Our evening meal in Isla's was outstanding. Interesting... More

I've stayed at the George at least five times over the past ten years, and my most recent visit in June 2014 was the best ever. It's hard to beat a room where you can see the ferry arrive and depart from a private deck and even while lying in bed. Having cocktails in the garden on a beautiful summer... More

We have recently experienced two amazing lunches sat in the unique and fabulous garden over looking to Solent. The tuna salad was superb (as was the Sancerre)! I'm delighted that you now allow our very well behaved Golden Retriever Jack into the garden, which now enables us to enjoy your delightful menu on even more occasions. A personal thank you... More

We were regulars at the Hambrough when Robert Thompson was in the seat there. After a year + of good (but not excellent) food around the IOW awaiting Robert's return it was a treat to go to the George for our anniversary. We stayed over being East Wighters. The reception was good and we were shown to our room quickly... More

You can see that the hotel has changed hands recently with a fair bit of refurbishment going on. Despite this everything ran like clockwork with the level of service you would expect from this quality of establishment. The room we had was very comfortable, clean and with a decor that was stylishly plain and unfussy. It was on the ground... More

Thank you - we were very pleased that everything ran like clockwork and you were not disturbed by any of our upgrades. Many of our guests do pop over from the mainland to dine. The trip across the Solent only seems to add to the occasion and as you say, the ferry is so convenient that a car is not... More

Lunch today with my wife was almost inedible. I had loin of pork in an Indonesian soup with beans. The pork was virtually uncooked in parts and overall tasteless. At £23 it represented the worst meal and value for money I have experienced in a long time. My wife's fish pie was over salted and at £18 vastly overpriced. A... More

It is disappointing to receive a review such as this - particularly in light of the great ones we have had recently - but we have spoken at length to our Management Team who were involved with your service yesterday. Our Head Chef has confirmed that the pork dishes were temperature probed before serving and that this dish is served... More
