I'm not the best person for this job, because sleeping in a tent in the middle of a thunderstorm is 5 star luxury. The good points: Warm, dry (no damp) room. Clean enough bathroom, en suite, that I can have a shower in. Paint is not flaking off the walls and there isn't anything broken in the room The bad... More

On arriving we were brought through the back of the pub upstairs smelly area no lights in hallway working. next she brought us into our room, which was supposed to be a family room, which turned out to be two single beds in a tiny room with an en-suite which smelt of urine. 3 of us standing there after a... Just checked out of The Crown and would just like to say a massive thank you to the staff there. The room was excellent and the food was gorgeous, and hot, unlike other places we visited this week. I expected quite late night noise with the pub being downstairs but it only went really late on one occassion and even... More

Arrived at the start of lunch at 12.15. Ordered the Sunday roast for the three of us. There was only about 3 other customers in the pub. After 40 minutes there was still no sign of our lunch so went to enquire. They apologised and said they were busy???? And it would be another 10 minutes. When it was 2... More

Booked a double room for two nights but left after the first one. Pros: location is in the centre of Ryde. Uphill 15 min walk from Portsmouth Harbour pier. 5 min downhill walk to the main bus station for connections across Isle of Wight. Cons: Double room bed mattress needs to be replaced (room 5), you could feel the springs.... More

Terrible visit. We were told the wait would be an hour and a half even though there were only about 4 tables waiting for food. After waiting nearly 2 hours we were told they were making someone else's food and then they would start making ours. Absolutely terrible seeing as it was only pub food. Table next to ours had... I've stayed at the Crown each year for a while now; its a no frills, good honest pub with a great landlord and a team of friendly and hard working bar staff. This year they have been working hard on the hotel side and the new carpet is just one of those improvements. The maid/linen service was also noticeably better... More

It has been a year since my last stay, some nice improvements happened since, New carpets and a complete fresh paint throughout the hotel, excellent bedding, and staff as friendly and helpful as ever. The food is excellent, I'd recommend the chilli nachos to anyone, and a well stocked bar. It is a pub with a hotel on top so... More

Had lunch in the Bar food was good and the staff were very friendly The furniture certainly needs updating with rips to the leather chairs and so on and a bit of freshing up wouldn't go a miss. Will be back again 😉

I read a few reviews of this hotel after I'd booked for a four day trip to the IOW and was a little apprehensive when we arrived to find the place full of Football fans watching Arsenal against Chelsea in the Charity shield. First impression can sometimes be wrong however. We found the room comfortable, the staff very helpful, the... More
