Despite first appearances (the sign outside with missing letters didn't look promising) as a last minute spur of the moment trip we didn't want anything other than a clean bed to sleep in (me, son age 8 & my mum). Looked a bit Faulty Towers but how lovely all of the staff were!!! If only more people took that into... more

Milton Keynes Totally amazed at the run down Royal York Hotel. Exterior was a mess, paint falling off, car park a mess, interior was the 'pitts'. The place just stunk of 'oldie' world. Badly needs a mega face-lift. The young staff are friendly enough but lack of staff makes their job hard, with little time to speak to guests. There... more

As soon as we arrived at the Royal York Hotel we could see what friendly/helpful people worked there. Room was very clean and fresh. The breakfast was very good, served hot. Did not have an evening meal but the menu look very nice and changed every day. Had a non-smoking bar area which was very comfortable - Will return next... more

My sister and I visited this lovely Art Deco hotel for 4 nights in November. I have to say that having read some of the reviews before we went I was a bit worried about what we would find, particularly as both of us were semi-convalescent following stays in hospital. We found the service excellent, the staff young but keen,... more

This hotel needs quite a bit of tlc, built in the early 1800s.the new owner is bringing it back to its former glory.the staff are brilliant nothing is to much bother for them, ask for something and they will oblige, theh ran out of Bicarde so they went to the local shop and got some.Breakfast could be better but dinner could... more

We have been taking people on carpet bowls holidays for 17 years, up to 2,000 per year, and despite careful checking beforehand the Royal York Hotel turned out to be the poorest hotel we have ever stayed out. The cleanliness and comfort of the bedrooms and public rooms was very poor but worst of all was the restaurant which was... more

Avoid this hotel! Even free it would be too expensive! The rooms are seedy and badly maintained. The food is OK but cold -- if it arrives at all, which it often doesn't. While I was there they ran out of food! The hotel's at the top of a very steep hill and inside there's only one small lift, so... more

This has to be the very worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The room smelt a though something had recently died in it, the carpets were stained and thread-bare, the woodchip wallpaper was a stunning mould and beige patchwork effect and as for the bathroom!!! Oh and by the way should you forget your room key then simply ask... more
