I booked this hotel as a treat for my parents. However they rang up to check something before they arrived, where they were told it was closed, due to the owner being ill!!! We asked for a refund, which they agreed to, however this did not happen, I rang again and was again promised a refund, this did not happen.... More

My partner and I headed up to Allt Yr Ynys for a weekend away, arriving quite late on a Friday and leaving on the Sunday. The hotel is large, grandiose with a very country feel to it. On arrival we were greeted by Dragosh (sorry if I spelt that wrong!), a friendly Romanian chap who checked us in smartly, led... More

We came as a couple with our dog in the summer. It wasn't great weather but it was still okay. Views are lovely and it is a character building. We booked with I think the owner who was obviously busy. Too busy to talk the first time I called which I thought was odd. Second time round we managed and... More

My girlfriend and I stayed here one chilly welsh weekend in early December. It was supposed to be a romantic weekend but my girlfriend spent most of the weekend freezing in our 'converted barn' room. With basically minimal heating and spooky ducks everywhere. The only place we found heat was in the main lounge in front of the lovely big... More

First I would like to say that the food was some of the best I have ever eaten. The menu was impressive and the presentation was wonderful. The good bit is over...... Our welcome once we arrived was blunt at best. The main hotel was quite cold but our room was freezing. The heating was on but it took 90mins... More

We booked this hotel as a birthday treat/relaxing break weekend away. Unfortunately the day before arrival we were notified that the swimming pool was out of action, but we decided to proceed.Upon arrival the proprietor informed us that the pre-booked/pre-paid for small dog was not allowed in the main building. We were shown to our room, which was a very spacious, very dated, high ceiling... This is the third time we stayed. It is an amazing hotel with lovely staff and excellent food. Have stayed in one of the converted stable rooms and twice in the Jacobean Suite. It is an ideal getaway in stunning countryside with a river running alongside. Will be going back next year without a doubt

Lovely 1st wedding anniversary in an idyllic setting. Very polite and friendly staff, food was delicious. The room was very secluded with a fantastic view only a shame there was too little hot water for the bath, but all the positives far outweighed that! Would really recommend the shoot with Jim too, was very fun! All in all great weekend... More

An excellent one night stay in a very spacious, modern and very warm room! The bed was big and extremely comfortable. The dinner was absolutely stunning. All staff were professional and we were looked after very well. The hotel has beautiful surroundings. It must be especially lovely in the summer months. A few tips: room has no hair dryer, public... Nestling in the foothills of the Black Mountains just off the A465, 5 miles or a 10 minute drive from Abergavenny, you will find the Allt Yr Ynys Country House Hotel….. a beautifully preserved 16th Century manor house on the fringes of the Brecon Beacons National Park, with views over the surrounding hills. The hotel is enclosed in 16 acres of parkland, gardens and woodland and a beautiful lavender filled Elizabethan walled garden; the perfect setting for al fresco dining, morning coffees, afternoon teas, or simply a lazy pint.
