Dec 2, 2009 | Trip type: Friends getaway

We stayed for one night with six other friends in the seperate house. We arrived first and were shown all four rooms, all of which were very old fashioned, threadbare carpets, old furniture, and hard greyish towels, didnt step inside the shower!. Room 18 was the best but by far not the greatest room. The bedding was clean, but overall... more

We stayed with Derek in March using the Mill as a stopover on the way to Spain. We flew from Ireland to Stanstead and stayed the night and a second night on the way back from our holiday. We have two young children (4 & 2) and they could not have been looked after any better than they were in... more

What a disappointment, the external environment is not conducive to the run down, poorly cared for accommodation that awaits you. Where do I start on all the things that are wrong; family owned business but they do not have clue, when you arrive you do not feel welcome, check in is by the bar and half way in to the... more

Although it is disappointing to receive such a poor review the feed back is welcome and will be acted upon. We took over the hotel earlier this year and are going through a programme of improvements clearly we need to bring the room mentionned in this review up the priority list and will do so. I am a bit taken...

We went for a celebration meal with family and friends so cannot comment on the hotel aspect. The staff were welcoming and friendly, a quality that I consider important. Even with a 3 year old running round we were made to feel very welcome. The food was good too. It has a nice relaxed ambience and the inner workings of... more

The guest house is a lovely restored old mill and the location is terrific. Just a short walk across a field to the canal towpath. My wife and i stayed there one night on the way home from a conference. Our room was in the cottage alongside the mill itself and although everything was clean and everything worked, the place... more

This place is a joke. I should have walked when the way to the room, and a fire door, were blocked by a large pile of old bedding. The radiator didn't work so the room was absolutely freezing. I mentioned it and was told the heating would be turned up. Turned on would have helped. The lack of a TV... more

Staff didn't seem trained, were dithery & clueless. Room - wallpaper off the wall, broken shower, blocked drainhole, no shaver socket, no wardrobe. TV reception hopeless. Comfy & warm room though. Evening/night was noisy with a big party - were told about it before booking, but were told we wouldn't hear it, but we were kept awake with thudding music... more

Very rude and greedy owner, complained about our late coming (our plane was delayed) and put us into the smallest room on the SECOND floor wıth a baby pram that could not fit through the coridor and also wanted to charge us for our 8 month old son. Did not bother to help my disabled husband to carry the bags... more

The pictures on the internet were very misleading! We expected a quaint, friendly, nice, NORMAL B&B!! Current owners very rude and did nothing to make stay pleasurable! Rooms scruffy, but linen clean. When asked what was for breakfast told "it would all be on a plate, leave what you don't want". Within seconds of arriving told would be fined if... more

Boy have I got my work cut out. Thanks very much for the honesty of this review and others on this list it is very helpful to know what we have been getting wrong. I have just bought Little Hallingbury Mill. It is a fabulous place, but needs work on both the building, and the service front. The work has...

Booked several rooms - bookings were lost, or rooms changed from doubles to singles (no apologies given to us for any of these problems). Rooms were tiny, with slapdash decor, cheap furniture, crumbs in drawers and nowhere to hang clothes. Can't fault the location which is gorgeous. This could be one of the best B & Bs in the country,... more
