OK, the pub/hotel is dated, but it is OLD. It has plenty of character and a very friendly landlord. He didnt seem to mind we had noisy kids! We had a family Sunday lunch on the weekend of Kington vintage show (15/16 Aug). Dinner was very good, (veg and gravy served separately just as we like it) and VERY reasonably... More

Arriving in Kington for an overnight stay while walking Offa's Dyke Path, we wanted a quick but satisfying meal. Our guesthouse landlady recommended the Oxford Arms, which was a short walk away. She urged us not to be put off by the rather shabby appearance of the pub! We were immediately welcomed by Fred, who with his staff looked after... More

We were coming back from holiday and we saw this restaurant and it has a good appearance from the outside and in. The food is good. The only thing that lets it down is the toilets. They are the worst toilets that I've ever seen in years... .

We ate here while walking the Offa's Dyke. From the outside it looked shabby and our first impression didn't improve when we walked into the dinning area. We decided to stay for a meal mainly due to tiredness. The beer on offer was well kept and went down well, the bar staff being very helpful on my selection. Fred the... More

First impression of the Oxford arms was disappointment, it just went further downhill when we stepped inside. A dreary rundown place in a dreary rundown street We entered into a scruffy bar with a pool table, everything looked shabby and dirty. We were shown the way to our room and that was when things got even worse. I wanted to... More

You couldn't ask for a friendlier landlord in Fred and the food is good honest pub food. My steak was cooked to perfection with proper home made chips, The wife's mixed grill was all you would want in a carnivores platter again all cooked to perfection.

We thought we would try the steak night here. The building from the street is impressive-a lovely 18th/early 19th frontage, but the interior is crying out for a make over.It is tired and dark and rather turns its back on the elegant frontage. It is very like the whole town of Kington. What could be a very attractive town looks tired and 'tatty'.... I was down from London travelling solo on a walking weekend staying at the nearby YHA and really appreciated the friendly atmosphere, excellent real ale and good quality wholesome food, all served with care and consideration by the manager and staff.

My bro and I stayed in a twin room. Comfortable beds and warm room. It is an old pub, so therefore don't expect a chain style modern room. It is a charming place. Fred, the owner, very hospitable and a real hard worker! One of the reasons for staying here was to eat well, drink well, and collapse for the... More

Fred the landlord offered a great welcome and genuine friendly service during our visit of one night. What this ancient hotel lacks due to age is more than made up with atmosphere. The breakfast and dinner were well priced, very tasty and plenty of it.
