First impressions are of an old fashion pub - old with lots of dark wood and in need of decoration but full of character. No sooner had we walked in the door when we were made so welcome that we soon forgot the décor. We were shown to a large newly decorated room with creaky floors to go with the... More

Due to a recent review of the Oxford arms, Kington I was a little reluctant to stay the night, however, as I had already paid for the room in full for my husband and myself , and I try to make a point of judging things for myself before rushing to conclusions, we decided to go regardless. I am now... More

Fred made us very welcome. The pub was very old but quirky. The food was very good with an excellent choice on the menu. Room was clean and although we looked out on to the main road was very quiet. The area was good for visiting places of interest and lots of history around that area. Will definitely go back.

A real traditional English pub with a warm welcome and excellent food and beer. Fred the barman was really welcoming and after having a very nice couple of beers in the bar we went on to have a good meal in the restaurant area. Was quite busy (bearing in mind the large number of pubs in Kington) but I can... More

When we walked in having walked from Hay we were not immediately impressed - it's all a bit tired and shabby looking. But a couple of nice pints soon cheered us up, and in most respects the hotel proved way better than first impressions suggested. I had a room with a shared bathroom, but the two rooms I shared with... More

OK, the pub/hotel is dated, but it is OLD. It has plenty of character and a very friendly landlord. He didnt seem to mind we had noisy kids! We had a family Sunday lunch on the weekend of Kington vintage show (15/16 Aug). Dinner was very good, (veg and gravy served separately just as we like it) and VERY reasonably... More

Arriving in Kington for an overnight stay while walking Offa's Dyke Path, we wanted a quick but satisfying meal. Our guesthouse landlady recommended the Oxford Arms, which was a short walk away. She urged us not to be put off by the rather shabby appearance of the pub! We were immediately welcomed by Fred, who with his staff looked after... More

We were coming back from holiday and we saw this restaurant and it has a good appearance from the outside and in. The food is good. The only thing that lets it down is the toilets. They are the worst toilets that I've ever seen in years... .

We ate here while walking the Offa's Dyke. From the outside it looked shabby and our first impression didn't improve when we walked into the dinning area. We decided to stay for a meal mainly due to tiredness. The beer on offer was well kept and went down well, the bar staff being very helpful on my selection. Fred the... More
