John and Harriett were very welcoming and a lovely couple, but my friend and I were very disappointed with the state of untidiness of the house and garden, which could have been beautiful in such a lovely setting. Unfortunately it gave the appearance of neglect, needing a total revamp, and not looking at all like the images on the web... More

Having read the reviews on here just as we were getting prepared to stay, I felt quite worried. The B&B is more like staying with your grandparents, I felt a bit awkward and it definitely needs a good clean and a link of paint. The wires in bedroom did feel dangerous and probably need looking at. John made me tea,... More

This is one of those special places where a star rating alone doesn't tell the story. If the Ritz is 5 stars, then this Bed and Breakfast isn't, but the experience here is likely so much better. John and Harriet Phipps are a lovely retired couple who open their ancient home to visitors. The house built in the 16 or... More

The owner of this B/B is a very nice lady and the property has lovely views, but regarding the house itself as a B/B , there was no room in the wardrobes in the room,no tea making facilities ,TV in the room did not work, electric wires in the room were not really safe, plus terrible toilet arrangements, which you have to share with... We arrived to a very warm welcome from John and Harriett with a pot of tea looking out onto the river and they sat and joined in!. They were so welcoming and helpful and we had a delicious breakfast in their kitchen with a good early morning chat. We loved it and we have stayed in many a 5* hotel... More

Had company Christmas meal event at The Domus Beaulieu. Managed to get a booking at the old Mill House for the evening (5 minute walk away). Lovely character building, not fancy and full of things you don't need, just perfect. Comfortable bed with en-suite bath and toilet facility. The hosts were very welcoming treating us with a cup of tea... More

Harriett and John were great hosts, I've stayed in varying degrees of accommodation all over the world and can't really remember many of the people who worked in them. Harriett and John don't work in their B&B they invite you in to their home...and seem very comfortable doing that. If you want a comfortable stay in a lovely location with... More

We booked in for one night only as we were attending a funeral nearby. Harriet made us a most welcome cup of tea when we arrived and hospitably stoked up the fire in the lounge while we enjoyed the tea and excellent biscuits. Our double bedroom en suite looked out onto the Beaulieu River. The bed was comfortable and the... More

This was the start of our English getaway from Australia and we couldn't have asked for more. Harriet and John were so welcoming, not to mention amazing cooks!! Harriet's breakfast was the best start to the day, and the conversation they offered over a cuppa was fantastic!! We had read reviews saying the Mill House was like staying with grandparents... This b&b depicts everything that’s good about England, full of home comforts, friendly folk, and a fantastic breakfast, all in the heart of a village that has the feel of a bygone age. Stay away from the chains and try a genuinely great b&b.
