Recently we booked at this place for four days but left after the first night. We only stayed because it was too late to get any booking elsewhere. This place was really dirty. We were given a room which was for disabled. The bed was filthy and the top sheet was completely covered with dogs hair. It smelt of dampness... More

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at 'The Candlesticks' Two friends and myself were made to feel most welcome in a pleasant and homely manner.Food good and the owner could not have been more helpful.Reading some of the negative reviews written by others I was suprised at their expectations and criticisms..It is after all a family run country Inn and not a... Needing accommodation at short notice for a family funeral, and regrettably not having checked on Trip advisor we thought it lucky to get rooms bank holiday weekend- we soon realised differently:, the whole place looks neglected and in desperate need of cleaning with a musty smell in rooms and grime around mismatched taps and fittings - cobwebs, and terribly outdated... On the website this place looked lovely, what a disappointment. Shabby reception area, musty cobweb laden rooms, dated decor and beds with stiff old blankets and tired lumpy mattresses, however the sheets were fresh, white and clean. A strange mixture of taps in the jaded bathroom. To be fair the shower was powerful and efficient. Breakfast was fine. Roy's charm... More

I booked a room at Candlesticks for two nights, with dinner on the first night, to celebrate my husband’s birthday and retirement. Roy promised luxury when I booked and sadly this was not delivered on any level during our stay. Our arrival did not auger well as we entered to find the bar/reception desk bearing dirty plates and the remains... More

Was looking for somewhere to eat and drove past this place when walking into the restaurant it looked like we walked into a grannys garden and the interior was not much better a conservatory was very dark and dim and extremely dated, the glass I had was dirty and smeary... Cheap prices on food but presentation of menu was not... More

This place had 4 spare rooms on early May Bank Holiday and the pub we had booked into failed to honour our booking so we were relieved to find any rooms after a 55 mile cycle. The rooms were clean and the bathrooms spotless, plenty of hot water for easing our aching limbs and lovely peace and quiet in the... More

I must admit when I saw the website picture I was expecting a quaint old Inn with rooms but it is rooms and a restaurant with a makeshift bar in the conservatory. The elderly couple running the business were very nice, friendly and accommodating. The rooms are in a separate building and are functional. We found the rooms very quiet... More

Place definitely needs investment, a fresh eye & energy. Rooms are spacious & quiet but bathroom not as clean as ought to be. Reception area very shabby and worn - in need of updating & elbow grease.Very extensive menu should be reduced in order to provide more fresh food, food takes ages to arrive, very small portions & quite expensive...
