Didn't even check in after checking the room out. The room looked very rough round the edges and not at all like the 'nice' photos that have been taken and appear on websites. The net curtains were filthy as was the shower tray. We found a better hotel through the tourist information centre, who were really helpful. more

Entrance is via the large pub which serves the north side of town. Bar service was very poor, we had to wait for some time for one member of staff to struggle serving a large number of drinkers prior to dealing with us wanting to check in. There is NO REAL ALE (contrary to what I read on a website... more

I think the reviews on this website make this hotel out to be a nightmare but it isnt. I found our room (No. 7) clean and smart and even had nice toiletries in the bathroom and tea tray! Had a nice view over the garden and the room was a good size and quiet throughout the night. No bad smells... more

The room was disgraceful - grubby carpet, hairs on the sheets, bathroom that smelt less than pleasant - the smell pervaded the whole room when the bathroom door was open. Even worse, I had booked a family room specifying 2 children, and the room only had one single bed. The reception staff said they'd try to do something, but no... more

Even though it is an old victorian hotel, I thinlk it adds to its charm. Staff friendly, room good and food adequate. more

Check - in took a very painful half an hr while one poor girl attempted to serve drinks and food, apparently the reception girl was in the kitchen making desserts! Eventually we got a key but were late for a family meal near by because of this. I am a cleaner and have seen some pretty dirty rooms but this... more

Decided to stay here for a night while travelling through the forest. For £50 we weren't expecting much. When checking had to go to the bar for someone, an off-duty member of staff checked us in, however she was welcoming and helpful. On the way to our room (6) it smelt of dogs, and mould! In the room, we couldnt... more

After reading previous critical reports on this hotel, we found the quality of service much improved on previous reports. Food good, staff friendly and breakfast available, unlike before. This hotel does not need much more to gain an even higher rating. more
