My friend and I spent one night at Forest Cottage in April 2009. Mrs. Rowland was the perfect hostess and reminded both of us of Mrs. McGonagall from Harry Potter! We arrived in the afternoon and she immediately offered us tea. We declined and decided instead to go out for a walk before dark. Mrs. Rowland knows EVERYTHING about the area and was able to point us in the right direction for some nice hikes and gave us some ideas about the pubs in town for dinner. Lyndhurst is very small and not exactly exciting but it provides nice access for the forest. We arrived home late after dinner but Mrs. Rowland was there to greet us and tucked us into bed with hot water bottles! The breakfast was delicious...your basic full English breakfast made with mostly local and organic produce...the forest mushrooms were especially delicious!
