The hotel is need of a refurbishment, carpets are a bit threadbare and the room was musty, just needed a good airing. The shower is our room ( 24 ) was hit & miss but the sheets were clean & crisp . The manager was a bit like Basil Fawlty but pleasant . Overall we had a great time, the... more

Fortunately we booked and stayed at this hotel before reading the reviews. Our experience mirrors a great deal of what has been said in the many reviews posted. The building is tired and appears to have had little maintenance or refurbishment. The decor is old, the carpets on the staircases threadbare and the furniture is haphazard and worn. Our booking... more

Dreadful room, curtains only just hanging on and carpet very threadbear, but the worse thing was the awful smell of bad drains or sewer coming from the bathroom. It even seemed to be coming out of the taps! We did tell the staff but nothing was done and the manager was really very uninterested. Certainly will not be going back. more

I suppose because I've stayed in the bear at least ten times I am a little bit out of order to give low marks. I work nearby and am a fairly regular visitor both alone or with my two kids. I don't like complaining but the main gripes are: 1) The general manager is a surly type who needs to... more

I had the misfortune to eat at The Bear recently for a family Christmas dinner. On a Saturday lunchtime we were surprised to find we were the only party in the restaurant, but we soon found out why. The food was truly terrible. A goat's cheese tart starter consisted of orange cheese, burnt pastry and a salad drowned in balsamic... more

We booked our New years dinner in advance to stay at the Bear Hotel as they were offering a good deal. The food was nice and well served by the young staff, who all seemed very friendly. The way it was served seemed well planned and thought out to make sure there was no mistakes. Overall, it was a very... more

This must be the worst hotel on the planet, so thank god I was only staying one night. I have never written a review before so things must have been really bad for me to feel the need to warn you about this place. There is nothing good I can write about this hotel. My room was dirty and tatty.... more

Booked 3 rooms at this hotel whilst attending a party here. One double/family room was OK, not badly decorated large room . and clean bed linen. Bathroom basin very grotty and extractor fan didn't work. Other double room tatty and bathroom smelt of sewage. Single room in need of decoration and bath not nice. Staff were surly and breakfast took a... more

We booked this hotel as we needed to attend a meeting in Havant and did want to get have to get up at 5am to make the meeting from London. I wish we had. I understand from a local taxi driver that this was once an elegant coaching in. The place seems to have last been decorated about 40 years... more
