Having booked to go on the Real Ale Train on the Watercress Line it was decided to book in to a hotel so as none of our party needed to drive! The Swan fitted the bill! It is an old hotel but has extremely comfortable beds, the bed linen was as good as it gets, superb. All round good value.... more

Do not stay here! The 3 rooms we booked (single rooms) were damp with brown stains on the wall and had a nasty smell. The standard was so bad, we had to move to a different hotel. The The hotel said they did have a damp problem but it was now cured! We don't know how the hotel can possibly... more

This hotel is about 50 miles from Heathrow and just a few miles from Chawton and Jane Austen's house. It has a large (by British standards) parking lot behind the building. The building itself is old and the layout is sort of chopped up but we found our room to be spacious and the beds to be clean and comfortable.... more

Room in need of decorating, shower curtain patterned with black mould around edges. Room stuffy because new windows have been put in behind the old ones and you can’t open them. Booked a table in the restaurant on March 14th as this was advertised on the website as St Patrick’s night with live band but no sign of them on... more

This is a fine old coaching inn in the centre of Alton. It has been refreshed recently with bright decor in the rooms and good, modern furniture. It oozes character. Location is as good as it gets in this small town, right on the high street and close to all the amenities. Unfortunately, the positives were badly let down by... more

This is nice and clean, it is an old coaching in so one must expect sloping creaky floors and no lift. This was a an overnight stopover for my wife and me. The room was clean and smallish. Tea and coffee with one packet of biscuits We booked too late to get a double bed. The TV had a reasonable... more

I ended up staying here after the diversion signs ran out and I couldn't find my original choice of accomodation!! I was charged £75 for a single room on a week night which I thought a tad steep, the room was fine, but looked out over the exit of the kitchen which meant that I could hear all the bins... more

We stayed in a double room overnight on Saturday 22 May 2008 when we went for a ride on the Watercress Line Railway in the evening. We found the hotel was in a good location on the high street in Alton. There is a car park at the back and when you check into receiption they provide you with a... more

We stayed on a Saturday night and the hotel is very easy to find in the High St. There is a disabled parking space at the front of the hotel along with a small taxi area, but the main parking area is behind the hotel. The reception give you a ticket to put into your car so you dont have... more

Having booked this hotel at the last minute i was then a little worried on reading some of the reviews on here. We booked a standard double room and found the general areas of the hotel well maintained and characterful. Staff at reception were friendly and helpful whenever we had contact with them, parking is plentiful and , though we... more
