Stopped here for one night on a trip to relatives, I booked the hotel online for a double room, I had a little trouble finding the car park as the signs have no lights in the dark perhaps a planning restriction. On arrival at reception I was dealt with quickly and efficently and shown to my room, large and comtable... more

We have stayed at a couple places in Alton whenever we stay to visit family. Alton does not have a great selection when it comes to hotels, but we found the Swan to be a decent place at a fair price. It's right in the heart of town, which is very convenienant if you are without a vehicle. The service... more

A typical busy, town centre, old coaching inn, so don't expect luxury but such hotels are idiosyncratic and interesting. This was no exception. We had a large, comfortable room with a settee and a very comfortable bed with crisp, white bedding. Only a view over adjacent roofs but this meant a quiet night's sleep. The food was good, pub type... more

The room we occupied for a two night stay was in the roof space of the part of the hotel above an adjacent shop. There was no window or skylight that could be opened to provide ventilation. The heated towel rail in the ensuite could not be turned off. The hotel provided a fan but this was inadequate. The room... more

The hotel has character and is very quaint (the floor is very noisy but it is old and expected) , staff over stretched and look tired and bored, Manager (male) was very pompous and aloof. He even imitated a customers accent while serving them! how rude! I also heard him on 2 occasions shouting and swearing (loudly) at staff although... more

Having booked to go on the Real Ale Train on the Watercress Line it was decided to book in to a hotel so as none of our party needed to drive! The Swan fitted the bill! It is an old hotel but has extremely comfortable beds, the bed linen was as good as it gets, superb. All round good value.... more

Do not stay here! The 3 rooms we booked (single rooms) were damp with brown stains on the wall and had a nasty smell. The standard was so bad, we had to move to a different hotel. The The hotel said they did have a damp problem but it was now cured! We don't know how the hotel can possibly... more

This hotel is about 50 miles from Heathrow and just a few miles from Chawton and Jane Austen's house. It has a large (by British standards) parking lot behind the building. The building itself is old and the layout is sort of chopped up but we found our room to be spacious and the beds to be clean and comfortable.... more

Room in need of decorating, shower curtain patterned with black mould around edges. Room stuffy because new windows have been put in behind the old ones and you can’t open them. Booked a table in the restaurant on March 14th as this was advertised on the website as St Patrick’s night with live band but no sign of them on... more
