Having tried a few independent hotels in the area with rather dubious results, I had low expectations of The Angel, which meant I was even more pleasantly surprised when I arrived and found a spotless, comfortable room with a large desk, good wifi, comfortable bed, powerful shower and cosy furnishings. In the bar I enjoyed the incredibly cheap carvery and... More

We didn't stay in the hotel but we did enjoy a very good carvery at a very good price. Their beer (they have their own pint, Angel) is very cheap too and the wines are good. We will definitely come again. But just one small thing, we would like to see the long haired chef tie his hair back in... More

This was an interesting place to stay, my hotel room was in a separate building to the main hotel (almost like flats) The room was VERY large & spacious as was the bathroom, the only issue here would be if a very tall person stayed as the over the bath shower had a slanted roof where myself even at 5'6... Been impressed using it haas a coffee stop when passing. Yesterday we drove the 22 miles from Gosport for the carvery. It was excellent as was the ambience together with light music in the background. A very pleasant experience.

We took our sons for a pre Christmas lunch at their carvery, this was very good and reasonably priced. They also cover the meats to stop them drying out: unlike other carveries. The staff are polite and helpful and the restaurant is clean and tidy. Definitely a place to return to.

Really easy hotel to get to, although there is no signpost on the road so you almost go past the entrance. Hotel is only a few minutes away from Jane Austen's house and around 20 minutes to Winchester, so is well placed if visiting those areas. Upon arrival we were welcomed by a nice man on the reception desk who... More

Requests for a cab number were met with a blank look as if we were asking for something unreasonable and we were not given basic information such as when breakfast or check out was. When we politely pointed this out as we left we were told off and made to feel awful for it. An apology and an offer to... More

I stayed here in August for a friends wedding and although the hotel itself was good, the receptionist that checked us in was very rude. She gave us no information on breakfast time or check out and when we asked if we could have some help ordering a taxi, she was very rude and made it clear she wasn't interested... More

Good TV with plenty of channels, mobile works (02) free wifi. Room was small especially bathroom, did find it awkward with toilet next to the bath/shower, made it difficult getting in and out. People with even minor problems with movement would find this a big problem. I don't understand why the toilet is next to the bath, why not put... More

I called in just to get a leaflet, thinking I might stay at some point in the future. However, I found The Angel so welcoming and inviting that I immediately booked a room for that night. My room was quiet, warm, comfortable, well-equipped and spotlessly clean. The bar, the lounge and the restaurant were all inviting and comfortable, with a... More
