We had arranged a surprise 60th birthday party for a very good friend of ours. All of the staff, without exception were friendly, courteous and extremely efficient and couldn't do enough for us. The dinner party was held in the State Room - which is at the back of the main restaurant but self contained, thus enabling us to enjoy... More

My wife and I ate last Friday and was over whelmed with the quality of food and service. I choose the cassoulet ( which I highly recommend ) and my wife had the hens egg, also just as good. We were given a little treat from the kitchen before our starters with some amazing sour dough and smoked butter. The... More

Normally a lovely restaurant to go to, but on this particular occasion we felt the menu is confused and is trying to be pretentious. While finding itself looking ridiculous. One discuss stood out for me and it was fish and chips. 2 rosettes really? However the atmosphere is always pleasant. Was hard to workout who was managerial and who was... More

Celebrating my father in Laws 81st and couldn't have chosen a more pleasant place. Food is first class very Michelin star fare and hopefully soon to be awarded this accolade. The gardens overlooking rolling fields will prove popular in the spring and summer months ahead and will be back to sample their Sunday lunch for sure!!

While visiting the UK after being away for many years we thought we would check out an old haunt. We forgot how low the beams are. The only thing that has changed is the well has gone that used to be in the bar. Full of old worlde English charm, a nice open log fire.

I visited the pub for my birthday earlier this month and it remains my favourite pub. This is the chosen venue for all celebratory dinners in my family and for good reason too. Our visit to the pub this time was exceptional and whilst the pub/restaurant wasn't very busy, it really didn't make a difference. The food, like always, was... More

Have been a lunchtime regular here for over 3 years. Recently it has headed southwards. It used to have a roaring fire in winter with some great beers and the food was not only excellent but reasonably priced with efficient staff. Roll forward to this week and you have the coldest day this winter and both restaurant and bar cold... More

This pub lunch was very good. The food is as 'normal' with a twist e.g. smoked salmon marinaded in beetroot, for a starter. It tasted like smoke salmon with a difference which made it very interesting. Main course of beer batter cod with large size chips, mushy peas, tartare sauce was good. We were too full for a sweet, so... More

My husband and I had our wedding reception here on December 30th. Despite this being a busy period the staff at the Anchor, notably Kiran and Hannah, could not have been more obliging. The canapes, main and buffet foods were absolutely brilliant, we are still being complemented on it by our impressed guests (the sticky toffee pudding was particularly liked).... More

We stayed for 2 nights and had family over for dinner on one of the nights. I though the food was excellent and reasonably priced, staff were very attentive and we had an enjoyable night. The room we had was very dusty and could have been cleaner. For the price per night of £170 I expected better, nothing major but... More
