Our visit to Alton was for a friends wedding it's a tiny village with the most fantastic public house. I am really surprised by the recent reports as we were looked after from the time we arrived to check out. The pub is very beautiful lots of character low beams. some having strategically placed padding in for those with longer... More

This place has got so much better recently. We felt so well looked after by the staff, nothing was too much trouble. They have started to do a free appetiser and bread before the meal, both were amazing. The lamb and the chocolate mouse cake are both out of this world. Apparently the pub was being run on agency staff... More

We have loved the anchor for a long time with its beautiful surroundings and great food . However it wasn't the same this time round . Slow service and food just lacked taste. We will try again . Hopefully next time they will have sorted this problem out

Quaint historic inn with large rooms and good bathrooms. Reception staff are young and helpful. Breakfast is very good. Wifi is fast. However for the rooms have small windows and are airless. No portable fans which would help are provided. Bathroom toiletries are poor for the room pricing, lamps did not work and in room coffee was provided without a french... More

Called in as the pub was well rated in the michelin guide. When we arrived it looked nice so we took a table in the restaurant. We didn't have too much time so just ordered a main course which took over an hour to arrive. When you wait that long if it isn't excellent its even more disappointing. The meal... More

I've frequented this pub for some years on and off and I actually find it quite sad to rate it this poorly. But it's a fair rating based on the last three visits I've made. The first of the three was mediocre at best. The second in June was very poor. I was with my girlfriend and we ordered two... More

We waited for 6 months to see how new management would improve as out last visit to The Anchor as our was very disappointing. Unfortunately on our return they haven't delivered. We waited nearly an hour for our food. When it arrived the triple cooked chips were potato wedges at best. My burger was incredibly dry & had some moss... More

We came here for my friend's wedding reception (we didn't stay here, we just attended the reception). FIRST IMPRESSIONS The Inn is in Lower Froyle and has plenty of parking at the front. Inside, it's got REALLY low ceilings/beams and wooden floors. On the walls, it has lots of old (very quirky) posters - most of them either controversial i.e.... More

Lovely room but smelt of cooking. Also, bulbs out on 3 fittings. Room not made up on final night. I stayed 2 nights my wife 3. Main complaint was of slow service in the restaurant especially at breakfast. 8 am first sitting is too late for business guests. On first day there was no hollandaise sauce for eggs benedict with... First visit on a Monday evening, as staying in the area. Parking available. Nice country venue for dinner for two, having booked in advance. Good ambiance in the restaurant. Service throughout was excellent - thank you to the staff! Let down a bit by the food, which for the price should be of a better standard. Fairly limited choice available,... More
