Apr 11, 2009 | Trip type: Friends getaway

We were visiting friends and thought the hotel would make an ideal base, which it was. The bed was comfortable and the room was a decent size. And they are the only positive things I have to say. The staff were arguementative (having booked a room with breakfast only to be told that I had to prove it and yes,... more

We booked for 4 nights at this hotel because we wanted to visit friends in the area - and to have a good meal on my birthday. Buiding works have moved on into main restaurant (no advance warning given when booking) but kitchens unaffected, and 'full restaurant facilities' available in another area. Recent experience of other Marriotts (most recently Swansea... more

I normally like Marriott's as I find that they have a level of consistency and service so you know what you are getting. This was booked as a venue for a 2 day meeting for 30 people and whilst we got a great deal we were not told on booking that the Recepton area was undergoing referbishment and that the... more

Just returned from short break with my boyfriend at the Waltham Abbey Marriott hotel. Check in was quick and easy and all the staff were polite, friendly and helpful. We did not use the leisiure facilities...however, when we stayed there the hydro pool was out of order. There are extensive refurbishment works going on in the hotel at the moment,... more

A complete and utter rip off! How this hotel gets away with it I'll never know. The prices of the food and drink are outrageous. The receptionists dont have a clue what they are doing o, the bar staff are slow and unattentive, the bedrooms are dated and the Leisure facilities defy belief! I have never stayed at a hotel... more

We stayed over the weekend and unfortunately the staff were very inexperienced, a corridor party started early on the evening of the 18th and continued until 7AM the following morning, the staff could not prevent the paying & none paying guest from disturbing the other quests and we suffering an excruciating night of foul language and worse ! despite repeated... more

This was a nice hotel. Staff were pleasant, breakfast was good. We dined there for 3 nights, which was possibly too long (limited choice after a while). Food was quite expensive too. I couldn't fault the hotel, but it was rather impersonal fo rmy liking. more

This is a typical 80’s built business hotel, pretty inhuman and quite dull. The hotel is, in common with all Marriotts, spotlessly clean and all staff are knowledgeable and polite. Small rooms are standard and the high London prices Marriott charges make this a poor value choice. The hotel has just finished a major bedroom refurbishment and this has been... more

We prefer Marriotts and if you are looking for a hotel in this area, it is a dependable choice for this area (mind you the area's hotels are a bit down-level from London proper-type of hotels). The room was very nice , spacious and clean and the only issue is that they did not have the Marriott bed which is... more

Having only stayed in 2 Marriots before hand, i might not be in a position to comment on their overall standards but this one is definately not up to scratch.. Visited for a wedding. 1st impressions driving in; it looked like a retirement home, grounds not very well kept, long grass and it just looked upkempt. Check in was very... more
