It's not the Hilton, but it's only £40 a room and right by the sea. Shared shower/toilet, the bed was clean and comfy. Sort of a cross between Fawlty Towers and a youth hostel. For one night no problem for me but I'd be hard pushed to spend 2 only because I'd like a bit more comfort. Owner nice and... More

Received a warm welcome, though the room wasn't ready when me and a friend arrived. It didn't take long to get the room prepared to a twin room as was requested. The best thing was the tea and coffee making facilities. The bathroom was alright despite a small mould patch in the top corner. It is perfectly located for many... More

Would not recommend this to anyone. Stayed in a lot of bed and breakfasts over the country - and world and never come across anywhere so awful! Dirty sheets. Grotty, old showers. Horrible room. Go anywhere else but here!

I agree with a review above in that you get what you pay for! I often come down to Southend to visit friends & have stayed in many guest houses... This has been by far the best one yet! Basic... Yes but clean & friendly! The manager was MORE than accommodating especially when one of my little ones was poorly.... More

Had a really enjoyable stay and staff were fantastic. James was an affable young chap and made us feel really welcome. Will be staying again. Room was clean and in a great location.

We had the vast misfortune of staying here, and in all my travelling experience i have never had experienced such an unpleasant and foul hotel. I wouldn't send my pets here, never mind my family or a fellow human being. This is probably the most akin experience as to that of a refugee camp. Please don't stay here

I stayed at Bensons Guest House overnight whilst visiting family in Southend. I found my en-suite room to be very clean and comfortable. Although breakfast is not provided I was aware of this before arriving and was recommended a fantasic cafe around the corner who provided a discount for customers staying at Bensons. The Manager was very friendly and accomodating,... More

Just got back from bensons today and was not happy at all. The place as i only could describe it is a dirty pit of blood and urine. We have showered twice since getting home. First as we were walking up to the b&b we could see rubbish bags overflowing outside the entrance. As we entered the property we was... More
