We were greeted by Penny with tea and hot cross buns. The kids fell in love with her impeccably-behaved black labrador who accompanied us on walks along the river. The house is stuffed full with art but retains a warm, relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Kids are more than welcome - ours joined the family Easter egg hunt on Sunday - cavorting... More

We checked out of nearby Milsoms Hotel in Dedham due to it being so noisy we couldn't sleep and had an amazing night's sleep here in this lovely property with stunning views. Amazing home cooked breakfast too, and the host collects beautiful textile art and runs art classes, so showed us around her lovely studio.

This is a great B&B that we have stayed in several times before. The owner Penny is a wonderful hostess and goes out of her way to make you feel at home. We are vegan and this has been accomodated very well with soya milk provided and a vegan cooked breakfast. Emsworth House is also very child friendly with highchairs... More

We used this when walking the Essex Way and slept very well in the large clean ensuite room. Supper at the pub up the road was excellent as was the cooked breakfast the following morning.

Really nice views overlooking the Stour Estuary, the garden is large and fitted out with slides and swings which our two-year old loved. There's a big friendly family dog which hangs around hoping for food, and our hostess was most charming and helpful. Our room was spacious and clean, breakfast was big and english. We had a really good time.

I was made to feel so welcome at Emsworth House. I was there on business and the location was perfect. After a hard day of meetings, to sit on the patio and view the river was just stunning. The breakfasts are also served at an early enough time to allow for a full days work.

Traditional bed and breakfast, with a warm welcome from our host. The rooms were clean and well maintained. Great value for the location and facilities. We will be going back again when we want a relaxing break.

If you look for a comfortable place and a warm welcome, Emsworth house should be on your list. Bedroom and breakfast were perfect. Though we stayed only for one night twice, since the location is ideal when arriving and departing from Harwich by boat as we did, Emsworth would be great for staying longer and explore the region. Both the... More

I have to disagree with the other whingy reviewer. It's not biscuits that make a B&B, but the hospitality. Emsworth House has bucketfuls of character and better hospitality than anywhere else I've stayed. This is mainly down to the lovely lady of the house, Penny, who is one of the most interesting people I've ever met. We had long chats... More

The rooms were good and breakfast was what we common, but that fulfilled our needs. The minor point was a shared bathroom, but it was clean and was well equiped. The view and the garden were excellent indeed. But B & B's remain expensive and this one is too.
