Stayed here for 6 days on business. This is a very special place - wonderful location with spectacular views over the Stour, beautiful garden and what can only be described as the best landlady you could ever wish for. Penny is attentive, accommodating and wonderfully good fun. If you want something unconventional, comfortable and even sometimes a tad exciting book... More

I have just come back from a lovely stay at Emsworth House. It is super comfortable, there are fabulous views, a warm and friendly atmosphere, great breakfast, interesting art all over the place (and art classes if you want to join in), a lovely garden and an all round good experience. Many thanks for a great stay.

Emsworth House is a lovely old place with a beautiful view of the river Stour and a very pretty terrace to view it from. Unfortunately my sister and I just had a very poor experience there. The room obviously hadn't been cleaned for some time, the tea things were all stuck to the tray with spilled tea and the UHT... More

Stayed here whilst visiting for my son's cricket matches at the Royal Hospital School nearby. Penny was a very warm hostess and looked after us nicely. Room was comfortable and warm, with a nice view of the Stour. Lovely big garden. Breakfast was well cooked and tasty. Penny even gave us some cake one afternoon when we came back from... More

Travelling on the ferry from Harwich? Booked on the early sailing? Need a place nearby to stay overnight after a long journey? Look no further than here! A charming and beautifully kept homely B&B with friendly, personal service just a short drive from the ferry terminal. A shame that we had to leave so early and had so little time... More

Just returned from a business trip to this hotel - can't recommend it highly enough. Penny, the hostess, was excellent, the views are just stunning and the level of service and attention to detail was brilliant!!!

An absolutely wonderful house in a gorgeous setting with lots of artwork displayed. The hostess, Penny, is a very interesting lady and most welcomong. Beautiful views all round - we had a lovely en-suite room with river view and we were welcome to make ourselves at home around the house and grounds. It was a pity that we were only... More

I wanted to find a restful corner of England and was very lucky to find this place. I had a terrific welcome from Lucy and Patrick and was made to feel completely at home, offered tea and generally well hosted. Later, our hostess Penny introduced herself and made sure that I had sufficient information to go out for dinner, The... More

I stayed here for one night in conjunction with work and wished I could be there longer on holiday! The double room (ensuite) I had was lovely - spacious, well furnished, yet homely with lots of personality; a welcome change from the stark, characterless lodgings you get from chain hotels. It had lovely views onto the gardens and across the... More

We stayed here for four days in June and it was a bit of a disappointment. First the positive points. The landlady was very nice and helpful and, for instance, arranged a lift to a very good restaurant in Mistley that she had recommended (The Mistley Thorn). While we were waiting for the car that would pick us up she... More
