I have had the pleasure of visiting here twice over the past weekend (Friday night and Sunday night) as it was my birthday. On both occasions the food was superb. Service is always good and the atmosphere great . I am lucky to live in the village of Horndon on the hill and to have such a gem of a... More

This Inn dates from the 1500's and I chose it to stay with some colleagues from Germany as i wanted to show them a typical olde English Inn. From the minute you get there it just oozes history and character, oak beams also abound throughout the original buildings. We booked 3 suites (book early because they are always busy, although... I visited the bell on good Friday with my other half, we enjoyed a lovely 3 course meal which was perfectly balanced, the service is outstanding and the prices reasonable for such a good meal and environment. I am sure that had I had a problem if I had spoken to the staff this would of been resolved quickly however... More

After reading great reviews about this place thought I would book up for my wife and I to visit for our wedding anniversary, unfortunately after ringing for 2 days without being able to get through got an answer machine so left a message asking for a table, left my number and email address and after hearing nothing within 48 hours... Amazing stay for just 1 night - room is beautiful very well finished with lots of modern concepts. Not the sort of hotel you would find in South Essex but it is a real find with food also very good, Made to feel very welcome and would happily stay again.

Booked a three night stay on recommendation from family. a pretty average room.but threadbare carpet on stairs let it down. The food in the pub was first class. The continental breakfast included in the tariff was of very poor quality, bread for toast, a croissant and a selection of three cereal with a yogurt concoction in my opinion does not... More

On a previous business trip, we discovered the Bell for dinner, and enjoying it so much, the team all decided we would go back there a second night to eat. The food is excellent. As we had to return to the Thurrock area for another work assignment, The Bell was a natural choice to stay, and certainly the hotel lived... More
