I stayed here on business for 4 weeks and was lucky to have a suite. The pub/restaurant part is in a separate building with two other buildings that comprise the hotel. The room was stunning, the food superb, the restaurant ambiance was good and it was always packed without being unpleasant. The only slight problem is that you had to... More

Our welcome was friendly and our room large and comfortable. But there was quite a lot of dust around and the vase on the dressing table contained long dead flowers. A drink in the crowded bar before dinner showed the place's popularity and we were looking forward to our meal, especially as this pub was voted Essex Dining Pub of... More

This is an old style pub with a great restaurant, fantastic food and friendly staff. In the bar you can even take your dog with you, a really friendly place to have a drink or food, and also a hotel. Well worth a visit.

Been many times now and each visit gets better, rooms are first class and the food is fantastic, The staff are first class and go out of there way to help you. The Bell was an old coaching house and is a listed building.

Really helpful staff, gorgeous room with a massive bath and double shower. This hotel is a real gem in a lovely village. Beautiful old building, refurbished to a really high standard. we were able to park our car securely in the courtyard behind which was great. Breakfast was lovely too. We'll be back!

Well what can I say that hasn't been said already. Very friendly and well trained staff. Great atmosphere and wonderful food. There is always a good selection of real ales and a very interesting wine list. The Bell has been in the same family for many decades, and there dedication to providing the perfect dining experience is second to none.... More

Recently went back to the Bell for a birthday celebration. Was delighted that the food was top notch as ever, and the staff as welcoming and friendly as previous visits. Booked a room in newly completed high house hotel. Really impressed. Very " mr and mrs smith" style rooms, without the cost. Thoroughly recommend this place for a good meal,... More

Beautiful setting and fantastic food, what a treat! Plus they catered for my husband who has coeliacs disease and must have strict gluten free diet but wasn't a problem here as all fresh produce . Recommended to me & I recommend to you

We dined and stayed at The Bell for New Year. Our room was one of the original ones up a private staircase, the room was lovely, very well appointed and cosy. We are lucky enough to live locally and everything about the Bell exceeds what one might hope to expect of a country pub. John and his team run a... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Bell Inn, set in the lovely historic village of Horndon on the Hill, is an award winning 15th Century Coaching Inn, run by the same family for over 75 years. The warm hub-bub of conversation in the two busy bars confirms that this is a ‘proper’ pub. There's an open fire, numerous ales on hand pump and a top-class wine by the glass list.In the restaurant, our menu changes daily based on the freshest seasonal and local produce that our head chef can source. Upstairs, and in the Georgian buildings next door but one, we have 27 individually-styled bedrooms which are sympathetic to the history of the buildings, but with all the mod cons.In the Sunday Times 2010 Food list, The Bell Inn was voted one of the 10 best gastropubs in the UK.
