After booking at the Saracens I then read the reviews after and was worried what I had let myself In for however I was pleasantly surprised I stayed in room 16 which was a large spacious room with a wardrobe (some reviews stated there wasn't a wardrobe in their room) the heating was on full blast and had to turn... Our overnight stay in the Saracen's Head in Chelmsford can only be described as an unforgettable experience! The busy ground floor bars and restaurant seems curiously divorced from the "hotel" upstairs. Rather like the Marie Celeste, we waited for a member of staff to appear. A trip to the ladies facilities left me reeling "Ees rat Mr Fawlty .... dead... More

Staying 2 nights on business. First room given didn't lock!! Second room tv off stand and no heating. Scared to take a shower for fear of what might come out. No hairdryer but apparently doesn't say on website there are any so should assume none and if receptionist doesn't wash her hair every day why should I, really! No wardrobe... More

Stayed in room 17 (a twin) for luckily only one night - one bed was ok but at 2am in the morning we discovered that the other was literally falling apart with a mattress that made sure you remembered the position of each of its prominent springs! - Surprisingly I did actually sleep - probably the result of a drink... Couldn't believe the state of the room considering the downstairs bar!! The room was dated and shower was proper crap. I had to sleep very carefully as there was a light right next to my head. Can't complain about the staff, just the price of the room is not justified at all!!

We didn't stay at this hotel but had a good snack lunch. The menu offered a sharing platter of sandwiches & we were pleasantly surprised when it arrived. Really fresh bread, 3 different fillings & a bowl of chips. Our only complaint was that we struggled to eat it all! Our waitress was charming. Great lunch stop if you are... More

Massively over priced, mattress springs sticking through the top of the mattress, shower had to be held in place, carpet filthy, electrical fan showing wires half hanging off of the ceiling, very squeaky floor boards and to top it off no hotel parking so leave early if you need to stay because it took almost an hour to find a car... We did not stay in this hotel and judging from what the bar is like - thank goodness! We came in here after work for drinks and snacks for happy hours - making the drinks better value than they usually are. The place is shabby and the toilets are disgusting; so much so the locks on the doors did not... More
