We booked a family room for 4 adults at a cost of £90 which is really reasonable for Chelmsford and loads cheaper than getting a taxi home. The hotel from the outside and up to reception looks lovely. That is where the magic ended. I am not moaning because it was only cheap and we were only using it as... More

I used room 4 for five nights, I was going to leave within 30 min of arrival! The receptionist had billed my full stay to my card as soon as I arrived and I couldn't find anyone who could do a refund! The room was a health risk dangerously wired appliances, broken radiator valve, shower, no non slip mat for the... More

We booked without checking reviews....mistake. We booked here for convenience as we were going to a party held in the bar below.... Which was another experience in itself....surprise party that was not set up by the staff twenty minutes before the surprisee was to arrive, it seemed more of a surprise to the staff!!! Anyway we turned up, got booked... More

Walked into room and was met with a furnace of heat! Couldn't turn the radiators off as the knobs had corroded. Had to leave the windows open to let it out! Beds unconfortable due to springs digging in backs, hips. Couldn't move shower head as it was balanced on a piece of string strung between the shower rail, and cable... More

After booking at the Saracens I then read the reviews after and was worried what I had let myself In for however I was pleasantly surprised I stayed in room 16 which was a large spacious room with a wardrobe (some reviews stated there wasn't a wardrobe in their room) the heating was on full blast and had to turn... Our overnight stay in the Saracen's Head in Chelmsford can only be described as an unforgettable experience! The busy ground floor bars and restaurant seems curiously divorced from the "hotel" upstairs. Rather like the Marie Celeste, we waited for a member of staff to appear. A trip to the ladies facilities left me reeling "Ees rat Mr Fawlty .... dead... More

Staying 2 nights on business. First room given didn't lock!! Second room tv off stand and no heating. Scared to take a shower for fear of what might come out. No hairdryer but apparently doesn't say on website there are any so should assume none and if receptionist doesn't wash her hair every day why should I, really! No wardrobe... More

Stayed in room 17 (a twin) for luckily only one night - one bed was ok but at 2am in the morning we discovered that the other was literally falling apart with a mattress that made sure you remembered the position of each of its prominent springs! - Surprisingly I did actually sleep - probably the result of a drink... Couldn't believe the state of the room considering the downstairs bar!! The room was dated and shower was proper crap. I had to sleep very carefully as there was a light right next to my head. Can't complain about the staff, just the price of the room is not justified at all!!
