We had a 60th birthday party outside Chelmsford and opted for this hotel as it included parking and was roughly the same price as the others in town. The hotel seemed tired and dated when we checked in at reception. But we were pleasantly surprised when we got to the room. The positives... Comfortable big bed Good sized Bath towels... More

Was booked into the County by a client for 2 nights. A very pleasant surprise indeed, I arrived quite late, around 2115 , on my first night but they still served me a beautiful meal. Staff were attentive and very friendly without being overbearing. The room was well appointed and had possibly the most comfortable bed I have slept in... More

I've been to this hotel twice now! Once in May for their Murder Mystery Faulty Towers Night on a hen party and then again for a Sunday lunch in August. I think this is a great hotel! The hotel itself has a lovely authentic look to it outside but in side is really modern and the rooms are lovely! I'd... More

This was booked for a family meeting as we all live around an hour away. Didn't know the hotel so booked blind. The reception and waiting staff were great, the food was ok, the regular hotel style but not too much waiting around. In all could have been worse, we had a lovely day and the journey was shorter for... More

Was booked into the County by my company. Initial impressions were that it had seen better days and at some stage would have been a lovely hotel. Staff were friendly enough and assisted in sorting out a mishap with the booking. Ended up with a suite for 2 nights. Room was large and bed comfortable, decor and furnishings were a... More

Stellar location if you are travelling by train as the hotel is a 3/5 minute walk from the station. The reception staff were friendly, but not great advice friendly. The room itself looks good when you first walk in, but then you notice how it badly needs a new coat of paint and a proper clean. The bed is ok.... More

IF you like polite attentive staff this Hotel is for you all the staff; both reception Bar and restaurant were very hard working and polite. They couldnt do enough that you so much. The Hotel itself could do with a little TLC in certain areas but for the price and the food its worth it. My only small moan is... More

Booked in to The County Hotel and was a bit apprehensive as had seen some reviews complaining about the hot room etc. From the outside the hotel looks a bit dated and makes you a bit nervous. However I was pleasantly surprised with my room which was a premium room. It was a very warm night bit the a/c worked... More

This hotel was booked for me on the premise that it would be better than the local Premier Inn and was not much more expensive. Good points: Excellent room design - small room that did not feel cramped and had all the usually expected features Lovely restaurant food and attentive staff Room windows left open for arrival - made room... We recently stayed at this hotel on one of the hottest weekends ever!! We were both very impressed by the welcome we received and the bedroom (with small balcony) was very spacious and airy. We kept the balcony doors open all night as it was so sultry - although a fan was provided for our room the air was too... More
