I totally agree with a previous review that says the outside doesn't do this pub justice. From outside it looks quite mediocre. However inside is totally intriguing - interesting features and up and down layout, really friendly and welcoming staff plus lovely food. I would have gone for 5 out of 5 but (maybe harshly) marked down a notch for... More

We only had dinner, stayed in one of the rooms for a night and ate breakfast the next morning - we wish we could have stayed longer! Situated just a short walk from Bewl Water, the Bull Inn is set in the idyllic Sussex countryside offering good food, terrific service and warm hospitality. Definitely going back soon.

We found this pub and stopped for lunch on the way to the nearby Dale Hill Hotel. Good beer, good food, good atmosphere, nice log fire and traditional pub, friendly staff. Would definitely recommend and visit again.

Sebastian and lady penenlope directed us through the wonderful Kent County side to the bull. Sebastian had booked the table on his mobile telephonic device for 13.00hrs. The lady who took our booking waz absolutely delightful and we hurried to get there. We arrived just before the hour of one and was promptly shown our table which had our name... More

Stayed overnight on a whim looking for a real country pub with good food and service and we found it! The view from outside does not do it justice - indoors The Bull is warm, cosy and just delightful. We were made very welcome the moment we stepped through the front door late afternoon on a cold December day. We... More

Sunday lunch with our relatives who are locals and recommended this eatery. Absolutely packed out with locals and ramblers who know a good place to dine and drink on a Sunday. Dog friendly which was great to see and well behaved. The manager his wife and family are great people who offer exceptional service and a quality of food at... More

Short and sweet: Archetypal Olde Worlde country inn. Friendly welcome. Homely atmosphere Good selection of beers Super food Excellent value Although I've no reason to stay over, with my daughter living in the village, The Bull is perfect for a bite to eat and a good pint. Looking forward to the next time.

This place is roughly halfway on the round Bewl path and an excellent find. TIP: Time it to be here for lunch or just a refreshing drink. It will set you up to dash off those last few miles home. It's a perfect mix of tradition and friendly people. Stone floors so boots and dogs are OK. Food is great... More

Chilli is excellent, one of the best I have ever had. Nice play area outside for children. A proper country pub with good service. Interesting car park, large car park at rear but almost a hidden secret. Bonfire looks good for fireworks night...

Love The Bull. Have friends nearby and go there now and then. The owners are great - Very dry sence of humor and very friendly. Dogs are very welcome and so are kids. Food is great, beer and wines are great and it's one of those places that is busy with sounds of people chatting and laughing. Great gardens in... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Bull Inn was built between 1385 and 1425 and is reputed to be one of the oldest dwelling places in the country, but only became a pub towards the end of the 19th century. Set in 4 acres of rolling Sussex countryside, and within easy walking distance of beautiful Bewl Water, the Bull is very popular with walkers, cyclists and fishermen. A magnificent ancient building in a secluded location, the Inn has a wealth of old beams, low ceilings and quarry tiled floors that give it a real air of the traditional English Country pub. ... more   less
