Sadly I feel this hotel has seen 'better days'. Service was slow and a little unfriendly. Very disappointed to ascertain the bar was closing at 10.15 with no real reason or apology when asking to order more drinks from the barman who seemed keen to close regardless! If I had known this we would have stayed in the warm friendly... More

Nothing bad to say about this place, I had a slight problem with the toilet, but after informing the manager, he came and dealt with it right there and then, advising me to do the same thing when needed. The room was comfortable and warm, and the staff friendly, helpful, and happy to joke with me. I've been before, and... More

The owner of this establishment was extremely rude to me. I went to discuss my issues regarding the state of the room which was unclean with the hotel owner, as I had reported this to his manager the night before. Before I even got a chance to speak he dismissed me, then immediately falsely accused me of “bringing shopping bags... More

I read the reviews after we had booked at very short notice for New Years Eve, when it was too late to find another room! I'm afraid that the reviews were mostly right. However, staff were very friendly and the only saving grace about the room was that the bed was comfortable with clean, crisp linen and the carpet had... More

3 stars?? What a joke. We stayed in the family room for 2 nights at £100 per night. This included continental breakfast which consisted of 'make-your-own-toast', some rubbish cereal and rummaging through the cutlery bucket until you found a utensil that did not have grease and/or food stuck to it. The room was in dire need of a refurb. The... More

Awful hotel. Looks so nice from the outside. Ate at the hotel one night. I had lasagne which was like a brick. My husband asked for a starter which was meant to be vegetable soup. It was like vegetable water with a lump of cream cheese and a few bits of soggy bread floating in it which i presume were... More

Am not sure what hotel other reviewers stayed in but this hotel is excellent. The staff are extremely friendly and the food from the restaurant was top quality. The menu was high quality Italian - I chose tagliatelli with venison ragu and calamari. The room I had was big and clean. The bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom was sufficient... More

The hotel reception area is dark and unwelcoming, along with the rest of the ground floor. We asked for extra towels, sugar and milk - our request was ignored, although the person we spoke to promised action. The rooms are small and very dated, the furniture doesn't match and appears to date from the 1960s. The breakfast was poor -... More

We only stayed at the hotel for one night after wedding and even in that very short time we were there it made a significant (negative) an impression on us! For £75 for a double room you expect far more than the Chequers Inn offers. They seem to be economising on everything causing a very poor quality of service. We... More
