I am not sure where to start with this establishment. Firstly you are greeted with a sea of what looks to be underage youths leaning at the bar, then you have to fight your way through to the bar to order a drink to be greeted by an uninterested member of staff who would rather be the other side of... To be honest I was expecting an Olde World inn with creaky old bedroomas and tons of character. Probably didnt review it well enough but hey ho. Bedroom was in what seemed to be a 1970's motel block, 4 poster was slightly DIY and the slightly grubby looking curtain over it wasn't too clever. Room mostly clean, cold when we... More

We stopped for the night in one of the motel units, beautiful valley views and an excellent meal although the pub was fairly crowded. Breakfast next morning was good, and the staff friendly. A good place for walks in the district and to enjoy the relatively unspoilt village.

We had lunch at the bear today, never again the food was Luke warm, and the meat was so dried out you could have soled your shoes with it!! Sunday Roast is something that most chefs ought to be able to produce to a high standard!! When we told our waitress the meal was not up to standard she said... More

I Booked here in order to get an early start visiting Bodiam Castle, Bateman's and Scotney Castle. Location was perfect. I arrived later than planned but they were still serving dinner. The food and beer selections were good. I had a small issue with my dinner and they addressed it quickly. The room was comfortable although a bit worn. As... More

Wonderful staff, lovely food and interestingly stocked bar. The secret is the stunning, and I mean stunning, views over the south downs from the rooms. Make sure you get a south-facer and you will be thrilled. The garden is pretty and spectacular and the breakfast a lovely mix: fresh fruit and well-cooked traditional. Friendly locals too.

Enjoyed our one-night stay here. Thought motels were a thing of the past but this clearly not so. Nicely positioned in quiet locale of Burwash with a panoramic view of the countryside from our patio window. Sizeable room, comfortable bed with freshly laundered sheets and the plumbing worked fine. It’s not the luxury end of the market but no complaints... More
