We took a long walk from Southwold for lunch with The Bell as our destination on recommendations from previous visitors to our holiday cottage. We were not disappointed. A beautiful, charming pub that appears to have stood against the tide of fake quaintness so pervasive in pubs today. They dealt with both the larger-than-average family we are and the Family... More

Stayed nearby & walked over for an evening meal. Quite busy with diners & drinkers, a pleasant buzz of conversation. Ordered food which was pretty good although let down by not enough thought going into accompaniments eg from the specials board I had smoked haddock with chorizo & rarebit topping served with mashed potato and.......salad. Salad & mash is not... More

Reviewed The Bell a couple of years ago and nothing much has changed, although prices remain a little on the high side - you're paying for the location. Visited the pub with our 2 dogs everyday whilst staying for a week at a cottage in the village. Found the staff really welcoming and the beer and food were good -... More

Big skies, stunning sunsets, salt-laden air, perfect smoked haddock for breakfast, delightful village, walk into Southwold, crabbing at the harbour, sharp shower, back to the Bell Inn, 90p ferry, warm welcome, Adnams' ales, Mediterranean fish stew, cheese platter, great staff, reasonable prices, log fire, friendly locals, pint of Ghost Ship, warm room, great shower, coffee, comfy bed, Zzzzzzzzzzzzz. Lovely Saturday night meal here on the August bank holiday weekend, with lamb that flaked off the bone and duck that was incredibly tender. There were good Adnams beers and the prices were really reasonable too. The only downside was that it was packed (obviously not the fault of the staff) so we were glad we booked a table. Highly... We arrived at the Bell for a late lunch one Saturday. The place was packed inside and out on a lovely, hot August day. We found a table outside in the garden which was a nice spot to relax in. We were told the wait for food would be 45 mins so we can't complain that it was!!! Our wraps... More

A real country pub with a local feel and full of character, good food, and great beer. All capped off with friendly staff and a great location - and spotless facilities. The only help they need is clearing away plates and glasses from all the family lunches - many customers always a good sign.

After the poor experience of the Anchor the night before, my son, Daughter and I chose to eat at the Bell Inn instead, we sat outside and we treated to delicious flavoursome food with good portions and high quality produce which was well presented and good value for money. We sat outside on a very pleasant summer's evening and looked... More

Absolutely loved staying in the bell. We had room 6 the family room and it was beautiful, would highly recommend. Slightly removed from the main building but in the roof, you have your own separate entrance through the garden which the kids loved. Can even glimpse the sea. Beautiful room, comfortably fitted ourselves and our two children. Staff were very... More

Very, very, busy so we waited about 45 mins for food, which we were warned of as we ordered so we knew that which is good. Food was a really good standard, service was nice enough although the young staff could look a tad more cheerful and engage a little more but they were super busy so! Loved the location... More
