The hotel itself is very nice, although certain areas are looking tired and could do with a lick of paint. Reception staff brilliant and deserve a special mention, however rest of staff very hit and miss...some ok some almost untrained. The hotel relies alot on it's image of yesteryear, and the upper classes who probably frequented the establishment in years gone... more

A brilliant stay in the new Lighthouse rooms. I think we were the first to use them. Lovely decoration and brilliant large comfy bed. Nice ideas such as snuggly green dressing gowns and lambswool throws on the bed. Bathroom excellent - lots of gushing hot water. Nice idea to have a mini terrace so you can have drinks overlooking the... more

Stayed here for one night. Completely overpriced for what you get. The room itself was large, comfortable, quiet, bright and airy.View of carpark. Walls were a bit scuffed, with some plaster missing. Corridors and firedoors made the place look like a dreadful B+B or hostel. The downstairs main part of hotel is lovely, like stepping back in time. Breakfast was... more

We have been to The Swan many times over the years and really enjoy its "olde worlde charm" As long as you stay in the main hotel then the rooms are lovely with great views. However the restauant is absolutely awful!! I ordered scallops as a starter and was given 2 for £8! what really annoyed my is they had... more

Do not stay at this hotel it is overpriced We stayed here on recommendation The meal in resturant was inedible except the ice cream, the worst meal we have eaten for a long time The receptionist was gracious enough to discount the bill by £30 Our room was in the main building, top floor overlooking the square, (very nice) what... more

Booked after checking the Adnams site and was offered a very good deal, dinner b and b and the Crisps Room (no 9). On arrival the reception staff were friendly and efficient, offers of porterage of our luggage. The room is superb, the en suite shower and bath well appointed, bed is massive and also two good and comfortable armchairs. I... more

This visit completed the trilogy of our Times offer February Stays. (Previously Congham Hall & The Swan, Lavenham). We have stayed here several times before, and also have attended lunch and dinner events. So we knew that The Swan is tablecloth & silver service style, although we find their residents are not universally of very senior age. However the nearby... more

Fifty years ago my parents were friends of the then managers at the Swan and I knew the hotel well; I have not been back since, so we decided to take advantage of an outstanding drinks, dinner and bed offer in the Times newspaper, despite some of the less than glowing reviews on this site, and we were certainly not... more

Stayed there last weekend with family. Place needs redecorating. Food was very poor - apart from breakfast. Pineapple in parfait was inedible - tough and overcooked. Rather Faulty Towers nowadays! Jackie Wright and Family Jackie Wright and Family more
