I have stayed at and and dined at the Swan several times over a number of years and I must say that it's location is wonderful, an imposing building in a beautiful seaside town. The main body of the hotel is very old world and traditional, with a grand restaurant and period rooms. Service is good as is the food.... more

Having read some previous reviews I wonder whether they were reviewing the same place. My wife and I stayed in the recently refurbished Lighthouse rooms and far from being old worldly and stuffy they were modern, bright, clean and located in a quiet position behind the main hotel. I have stayed at the Swan on several occasions and it gets... more

I have read all of the reviews about the Swan Hotel, some helpful and others not, so I wanted to add my comments (for what they are worth!) to the rest. I am actually sitting in the hotel as I type on a little landing where you can actually get the free WIFI without being in the public lounge. Why... more

If you like modern, minimalistic hotels with plenty of leisure facilities then this is not the place for you. On the other hand if you want to go back to the 1950's with old fashioned rooms and even older guests then try the Swan Hotel. Also bring ear plugs (or take out your hearing aids) as finding a room in... more

I stayed here with my daughter (8 yrs old) having booked the hotel directly. I got a good deal for a classic room over looking the market square. Only problem is your woken loudly if you have the windows open with the deliveries to the Co-op store next door around 6-30am so no lay in for me! The room though... more

We enjoyed our stay in one of the refurbished lighthouse rooms - well appointed, comfortable and up to date. The lighthouse rooms surround a pleasant garden at the back of the hotel, with service from the bar. The rest of the hotel was very traditional, with a very comfortable lounge and a large bar which was mainly empty. Car parking... more

It’s hard to beat a sunny summer day spent in Southwold on the Suffolk coast for the sheer uplifting joy of simply sharing a beautiful place. The comparatively new Southwold Pier is an absolute joy (serving excellent tea and coffee) .. the Summer Theatre always a delight for a relaxing evening. That said, the joys of a pint of Adnams... more

Our room was a Swan Hotel Classic and although I expected to pay top price for an august weekend £200 (B & B) was still expensive considering the standard of the room .Do not be put off by previous reviews regarding " Lighthouse rooms being converted garages", they may well be, but they are a dam sight better than Room... more

Had three days here with my parents and partner. I booked this through late rooms so got a garden standard double for £120 a night and a "superior" for £180. The superior was at the back of the main hotel: it was large but gloomy and in need of updating. Our garden room was tucked into the remotest corner of... more
