Just back from a long weekend in Dunwich. We ate at the Ship Inn on Friday and Sunday nights. We found the staff friendly with a "no problem you have a huge dog with you" attitude. The food was above average I'd say and with the great location just a few steps from the sea I would highly recommend it.

We stayed for a three night stay in mid October. The pub is situated very near the beach and roughly half way between Aldeburgh and Southwold. Our room was a "Marsh View" room and the view did not disappoint. The bed however did disappoint as we were told on booking that it was king-sized when in fact it was a... More

We made a very late weekday online booking - and enjoyed yet another lovely stay in a marsh-view room. Very friendly welcome (and they remembered us), comfortable room, really good breakfast with plenty of options. We asked to stay on but, not surprisingly, they were full over the weekend, but they found a great deal for us down the road... More

Each time we "give it another try" it just gets more expensive, terrible service especially a very rude manager (which would explain the poor service from everyone else-as he obviously doesn't care-so why should they!) and the food is average. Fish & chips -ok...but if feels that they are stretching themselves with anything else.

Rang the morning of our visit to see if they had a room. The only good room was quite small so the manager kindly upgraded us to a best room for the same price. The weather was fabulous for the beginning of Oct and we spent most of the day around Minsmere before a visit to Southwold for tea and... More

We were really looking forward to eating here having frequented The Ship regularly when we lived in Suffolk several years ago. How disappointed we were! The table we reserved was in a conservatory-style room behind the bar which was entirely lacking in warmth or atmosphere. No soft furnishings, no heating, no music .......and it was like sitting in a wind-tunnel!... More

ve used this place before and found it top class, but it has gone down hill. Size of bed is only 4ft 6". Very small TV. Cracked wash basin, broken tiles in the shower and signs of black mound in tiled area and ceiling. This was in a room that I could see!!! Food was very good. Only orange and... More

Had a lovely stay here, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was small but then we were advised of this when we booked and for just two nights we could manage well enough, very clean room and bathroom which is all we ask really. The food was good and my hubby enjoyed the beers. Very dog friendly... More

Our primary reason for choosing the Ship Inn was that it was advertised as dog friendly and we were taking our soaniel on holiday with us for the first time. It certainly was dog friendly with the pooch allowed pretty much everywhere and lots of other doggy guests there too. There were plenty of good walks nearby - beach (dogs... More

This is a pleasant place to stay but was let down badly by the very noisy room. We stayed in Maison Dieu which is adjacent to the kitchen. The fan was very noisy and the only saving grace was that it went off around 10pm.. The people are friendly, the food was good and the location is ideal to get... More
