Booked online at short notice for a 2-day break, B&B. Hotel is a former rectory with parts dating back to mediaeval times. Perhaps a bit like faded grandeur? Spacious grounds, also a little unkempt. Very narrow entrance road from the A140; use rear entrance from road to Brome Church. Plenty of space for parking and walking. Excellent room, excellent value... more

We had a lovely room with views over the garden, spacious and clean, the restaurant made us welcome even though we arrived just before closing, a perfect meal. The only downside was the 18th Birthday booked in the function room to the restaurant, as the noise was a bit off putting, as we did not expect that type of event... more

We chose this hotel for a night away as it was far enough to feel like a real break but near enough so we weren't driving all day to get there, and we weren't disappointed. Our room was full of character & charm not to mention a four poster & beams. It's quite a quirky hotel as you can see... more

We chose this for a night away and were not disappointed. We had a large room which was very pleasant and a view of the garden but it did need some refurbishment. Chairs were very tired, bathroom rather outdated and bed cover appeared a bit tatty, however overall the room was clean, tidy and comfortable. We did later discover that... more

Just spent a weekend at the Cornwallis with my wife. Beautiful, old building, really looks the part. Extensive grounds surrounding hotel. Lovely quaint bar with wood burning stove. Pleasant restaurant, and comfortable conservatory. Friendly staff, and service just about spot on. Room was a bit 'tired', and the smallest four poster bed we've ever seen. Sleep was difficult to come... more

What can one say? The idea that anyone should be expected to have to pay for this type of service is laughable. The service in the restaurant was rude, slow and the staff poorly trained. The menu was limited - the same ingredients being recycled in almost every dish (I am all in favour of thrift but this is ridiculous).... more

We believe that we offer a varied and interesting choice on our menus at the Cornwallis Country House Hotel & Restaurant. Whilst all of our food is freshly cooked we do our utmost to prepare and serve it to our high standards within a reasonable time frame and it is very unfortunate if this guest experienced any excessive delay with...

Having planned to spend a long weekend in Suffolk for a while, it was timely to come across an offer for a really low rate at the Cornwallis. As others have said, the first impressions are great - the long tree lined drive and the part timber framed building surrounded by gardens. Our room was in the main building overlooking... more

Picked as always due to TA reviews. You will usually strike it luck, but this time was not great. NOW I must say the staff were very polite and friendly, but it seems they were just not well managed and did not think out of the box. The venue is nice. It was cheap and very nice, but: - First... more

Stayed here for a wedding that was held at Yaxley Hall Castle - Was here with the wedding party - 1st night was booked into room 15 in the carriage house - we all agree that this was the best room in the hotel - very large and a private terrace 2nd night I had to move to the main... more

We had read the reviews and were a little worried but as this was a last minute booking we had to find something in the area. Great surprise when we turned off the road into the entrance with its lined gravel drive of lime trees. The groands were a delight and the following morning was a real pleasure wandering among... more
