This is a lovely property in a great location but like most old wooden properties noise is a major issue. The bedroom doors are made of wooden slats so do not keep any noise or light out. In fact when any door is opened it's so loud it sounds like your own door which is slightly disconcerting, especially as there... More

Stayed here as a family, what a great time was had the owner Tracy could not have made us more welcome and give us better advise as to what to do and not to do during our time in the area. We tried but failed to see platypus though others had done while we we there. The Night Canoeing trip... More

The guides are so nice and funny. Bart made me laugh from the beginning till the end of the day. Darrius is excellent at leading mountain biking, took care of me and my friend cause we were super slow and kept falling. I high recommend to do the night canoeing, the stars are sooo beautiful and we saw a lot... More

My friends and I stayed for one night but loved it, it was so cosy and there was even a fireplace and complimentary marshmallows to cook. The showers were nice and while it was good to see energy efficiency in such a far out part of the world (the main lights had timers on them) it was sort of annoying... More

I recently led an academic trip for 15 college students to Australia. We stayed in many backpacker hostels during our three weeks in the country. Without hesitation On the Wallaby was our best lodging experience. Clean, comfortable, and great food all contributed to an outstanding stay. Owner Paul and manager Tracy were great hosts. I highly recommend going on some... More

We stayed here as part of our camper van trip of Northern queensland. we stayed one night and didn't stay in the lodge itself but were able to park our campervan in the yard and plug, we had use of all the facilities and all for a very reasonable price! The best bit was the night canoe tour which was... More

I normally don't bother reviewing hostels but On The Wallaby is exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we really felt as if we were at home. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, and gave great insight into the local area. The hostel itself is clean, beautifully looked after and incredibly cosy - blankets, beanbags, a woodburning stove... We didn't... More

Amazing experience with Paul and Tracy. Felt like part of their extended family. Lodging and food were great. And Paul went way out of his way to make it all special, although I'm sure he had been to these places a million times. Really knowledgeable about the ecosystems of the area as well as the cultural aspects. Really cared that... More

Me and two of my friends were traveling around Australia for a month. We heard about On the Wallaby and did the day tour then spent a few nights. This place is literally a home away from home. I have no complains at all! I would recommend this to anyone travelling as a couple, with friends or alone. They have... More

When you walk in the door at On the Wallaby you know you are someplace special. The place has the feel of being in someone's home rather than just a typical hostel. The staff are amazing, everything is clean, and quiet. For those not wanting to share quarters there are two single rooms, each with a double bed. Great place,... More
