We only stayed 1 night but we loved to stay a couple of days longer. The garden is beautiful and the room lovely! We had a veranda were we sat and have a drink in the evening, in the morning we woke up with the birds singing from the (rain)forest. Amazing. Breakfast is delicious and the owners are very friendly.... More

I'm sad to only have spent 4 days here with Mick and Sue. Everything is perfect! The gardens are like a slice of paradise. Our rooms were wonderful: super comfy beds, tastefully furnished and lots of personal and luxurious touches. Brekky on the verandah each morning was sublime. It was hard to choose from all the yummy homemade options. It... More

Thanks for the review RedPanda :-) This time of year (winter for us) our poinsettias are turning into that wonderful red colour, and lots of other flowers are also flowering (Justicias, Jacobinias, Orange Trumpet Vine). Sue now makes all our jams, bread and yesterday she made some butter - yummo !!! We are still waiting for the male cassowary to... More

I initially booked three nights accommodation at the Licuala Lodge, but enjoyed the location and the hospitality so much I extended my stay to eight nights. The lodge sits at the edge of the rain forest five minutes drive form the beach. To sit outside on the balcony and watch the wildlife was just amazing. The Ulysses butterflies, the kookaburras,... Hi FiBogan - many thanks for your review. We are more than happy to pick up guests travelling via the Greyhound. The bus stop is not very far, and it just goes to show that you don't have to have a car to come to Mission Beach. If you enjoy the environment and enjoy walking or cycling (like FiBogan) you... A great place to stay with a beautiful rain forest garden full of butterflies. Mick and Sue are great hosts and the breakfast really is delicious. We saw the local Cassawary and would have seen her two days in a row if we were not enjoying the pool so much the first time.

Hi Tony - many thanks for the review. When the sun shines the garden is alive with lots of different butterflies including the iridescent blue Ulysses. Glad you liked the breakfast, and so glad you saw the cassowary (especially after the cassowary/breakfast call incident :-) ) All the best and love to all in sunny Bridport (including Dr Who) Mick... We booked a night at Licuala Lodge on our way to Bedarra Island. All we can say is that we're sorry we couldn't have stayed longer! We stayed in the King suite, part of the main house, and it was magnificent. Such a beautiful, spacious room with private lounge area and ensuite and a door out onto the relaxing verandah.... More

Hi Leanne - hope your stay on Bedarra was as good as your stay here in good ole Mission Beach. I think that we are getting the word out that breakfast here at the Lodge is something special. Pity about the cassowary though - but I reckon if we see you again (maybe for a third honeymoon ?) then the... More

We chose to stay at the Licuala Lodge upon recommendation and would now highly recommend it ourselves. Unfortunately, we weren't very lucky with the weather - strong winds and rain for most of the day we stayed, but it was the perfect place to be "stranded": a beautiful home with great amenities amidst a lush tropical garden with a pool... Hi Piosenka - many thanks for the review. Sadly we can't do much about the weather, sometimes you have to simply grin and bear it. And if you can look on the bright side of things (as you obviously do) then life is still enjoyable. Glad you liked our breakfast, and the fact that you share your breakfast time with... More

My wife and I decided to have a couple of days out of Cairns before Christmas, taking a short break away from the shopping mayhem. The experience was fantastic, quiet in the rainforest with wildlife and we saw cassowaries. Our hosts, Mike and Sue were friendly, helpful and courteous. The breakfast was special too with juices, cereals, toast and spreads,... More

Long story short, this place was excellent. The owner are very nice and helpful, supported us with maps and ideas. The breakfast was the best we had so far in Australia and the rooms were clean, beautiful and easy to reach for cars with lot of luggage. We would stay here again for sure. Chris from Hamburg
