We spent one night here on our way to Townsville - good room, friendly staff and a comfy bed. One of the best breakfasts we've had as well. In the morning we saw the local (friendly?) cassowary walking by the garage and got some good photos.

Just returned for a self drive tour of Eastern Australia and were fortunate enough to stay at the Licuala Lodge in Mission Beach, Queensland. What a fantastic place! The owners, Mick and Sue instantly make you feel at home and are very helpful and attentive. The atmosphere is relaxed and very peaceful and the breakfast is to die for! The... More

Hi Andy - thanks for your kind words. Our female cassowary is putting in daily appearances at the moment, and the male cassowary is sitting on eggs so we expect to see him with a chick or two around Christmas time. Hope that all the photos you took will bring back pleasant memories of your visit down under. Love to... More

Fantastic b&b on the outskirts of Mission Beach (1 & 3/4 hour drive from Cairns Airport). Idyllic spot, rooms are in stilts which look over the vast gardens. Ideal for spotting the resident Cassawary! Sue & Mick are excellent hosts and have thought of everything down to supplying earplugs to shut out the nocturnal squawks and screeches of the nearby... Hi Carol - thanks for the review. Our resident cassowary is back to making her daily visits (sometimes twice daily). The earplugs do come in handy at times. Lots of guests are enchanted (?) by the night sounds, and a good debate can take place at the breakfast table deciding the origin of the noise. And a good tip to... More

Very good place to stay, owners are very kind and helpfull. Breakfast is fantastic, every day fresh fruit with yoghurt and honey, and your eggs any way you like them, super. See the Cassowary when you stay, nice pool, walk around the garden. The rooms a little bit noisy sometimes, very good bed.

Beautiful garden. Pool is great after a long day of activities to cool off. Sue's yummy breakfast is delicious with special baked treats sets you off with enough energy for the day ahead. Cassowaries often visit in the morning and you can get up close to them. You will always wake up to the sound of birds. We stayed in... More

My husband & I stopped at the lodge for two nights on the way to Cairns. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The garden is beautiful, full of colour & unusual plants. Mick very kindly took me round on the day we left to snip cuttings to pass onto our friends in Cairns. My husband enjoyed swimming in the garden pool... More

Hi Po53 - always happy to give cuttings from the garden and to show people all the various plants and fruit trees that we have. Sue and I love it when all our guests get together and have a chat with a glass or two. Sue has just made some rhubarb jam - yummo !!! Love to all in sunny... More

We stopped for two nights on our way to cairns. Room was quite small for 3 of us, however, there was a large lounge, kitchen etc in separate building opposite which was lovely, as we only really shower and sleep in the room it was fine! sue and Mick were very friendly and offered us a lovely breakfast and info... Hi Chris and Stuart - thanks for the review. You are right about the Queen rooms being a bit small for three people, and the King Suite is a much much better option (for three people). Thanks to Stuart for the concreting tips :-) Love to all in sunny Gloucester Mick and Sue More

Licuala is a great place to de-stress - one can just sit on the verandah, maybe with a wine, and watch the butterflies flit from flower to flower in the mini Garden of Eden below. Most accommodation is across the pebbled driveway from the main house, and is set in a tropical pole house style block of four beautifully decorated... More

Hi littlefmrt - many thanks for your review. We have won awards for the garden several years ago, and I think now is the time to re-enter the competitions. We recently spent a very relaxing three nights/four days at Licuala Lodge. We wished we could have stayed longer! Hi Taweiss - many thanks for your review. For all those who do think that they may stack on a few kilos during breakfast, then don't forget that you can always accompany Sue or Mick at our local gym, or help with some of our chores (cleaning, gardening, mowing the lawn). Spookily enough not many guests opt for helping with... More

Hi Manz01 - thanks for the review. Always happy to have guests from nearby Clifton Beach. All the homemade stuff is going down well with all our guests, and very soon we'll be harvesting more fruit from the garden (pineapples, mangoes, dragonfruit). See you again soon, and love to all in Clifton Beach Mick and Sue More
