Perfect location for a yoga retreat..... Walk to and from car park, huts and yoga room is very steep. It was fine for my visit, but would be more challenging in pouring rain. Runners are a must. The huts are adequate and private, the outdoor cold showers and toilet were fine. The food in the restaurant was absolutely amazing! Our... More

All i have to say is wow. This place is amazing. Staff is very friendly and personable. Cabins are simple and clean, and immersed in the forest for a unique outdoor-like experience. If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing getaway, this is the place. Best thing about this place - the food. Surprisingly gourmet for such an out-of-the... More

Very relaxing to be in a rainforest setting that one has to walk to for half a kilometre from the car parking area. Different to staying in more commercial hotels and highly recommended. Great day walks in the region - e.g. Kennedy Bay, Bicton Hill, Dunk Island, the Tablelands.

Hello, my partner and I have never been up North QLD. We visited mission beach for the first time and did not know what to expect. Wow. Amazing place for starters. You go to the main beach and there are a lot of backpackers. You can pay expensive prices in resorts on the beach. Sanctuary Retreat attracted us from previous... More

Hi JT, glad you enjoyed your stay and thanks for the detailed review. As you pointed out Sanctuary isn't for everybody but if you enjoy being in nature as well as some of the other finer things of life, are adventurous and fit and active, then you will enjoy Sanctuary. Thanks for being part of it and we look forward... More

This place is outstanding, if you're looking for a break away from the normal accommodation, this will be an experience you won't forget. Sleeping in a small hut in the rainforest puts your close to nature, and the outdoor washing facilities bring a whole new dimension. Everything is of high quality and th staff are friendly and kind. We stayed... More

Unpretentious magic location in the rainforest, a short walk to a secluded tropical beach: need to be fit due to steep slopes. The shade cloth twin-bed huts are spartan but clean, comfortable and very private. The restaurant is brilliant - superb food on a terrace over looking the sea and rainforest, and very reasonably priced. This could be an international... More

And for all those that loved it here, we loved having you here too. We don't respond to every loving response because it seems to be a bit too loving. But honestly we love having you guys stay, we love that you are adventurous, love that you loved our food and now you are getting why we don't respond to... More

Myself and a friend stayed here for 2 nights as we thought it would make a nice change from the typical backpacker hostels. We began our stay in a mission beach hostel before going to sanctuary retreat. We were concerned how to get here so asked our hostel to call sanctuary retreat to ask the best way. All they said... I'm glad that you, mostly, had a great stay. The title of your review "Not suitable if you don't have your own vehicle" would be better to say "Not suitable if you don't want to take responsibility for your own transport". I'm the mostly annoyed guy in your review that arranged for you the free transport to the bus stop... More

so different from anywhere else we have stayed. The longhouse provides a great lounge/restaurant area and is open, airy, welcoming and has great food. Downstairs the self-cater kitchen/dining area, lounge area (including hammocks to lazily read those books), laundry and bathrooms work well. We found it an excellent place to meet other travelers wanting a simple and close to nature... More

We arrived stressed and tired from work and left totally refreshed. Recommend it for those needing to retreat from the busy world and slow down. We enjoyed being surrounded by nature with the comforts of a comfy bed, hot shower etc. Being in the rainforest huts felt like we were sleeping in a tree house - the hum of the... More
