This was recommended to me and I thought I would go outside my comfort zone. I really was excited about this stay. The rainforest cabin was very comfortable, with a nice bed, quality linens, and complete privacy and serenity. Hiking up to the bathroom in the main retreat area was not as bad as I had expected. The bathrooms were... More

My girlfriend and I stayed here for two nights and we had a rainforest cabin. Our first impression when we got to the parking lot was "wow, this is very remote". After having a close encounter with a massive spider and a cassowary, we finally managed to pick up the courtesy phone at the parking lot, to call the reception.... More

Hey Sebastian, thanks for your awesome, honest and detailed review. And we are really glad that you enjoyed your time here. Yes, we are a little bit remote but still within 2 hours drive of an international airport and Yes, we do ask people to take their shoes off in the main building, but not because we are Hippies, we... A very unique style of accommodation, a hidden gem. The feel of the place is very different to anything else we have experienced in FNQ, the cabins are secluded and private and tie in with its natural surroundings. A general relaxed vibe surrounds this unique environment, the proprietor and staff are very welcoming and friendly. Dining in the cafe is... More

Great communal kitchen Lovely surroundings Wonderful service A few mozzies We booked two nights in the Rainforest Huts with the ensuites, we're driving away now wishing we had booked a week!! The hospitality shown by Paul and his staff is wonderful, the communal kitchen is great - heaps of room for each guests storage (fridge and pantry sections). It's basic... More

Just the most wonderful and most peaceful place I have ever stayed at. After seeing relatives in Tasmania, and all around Sydney, we sent for a week to the Sanctuary Retreat. We stayed in one of their wooden cabins set in the side of a hill. Wonderful views out to the sea and our detached cabin, with its own balcony... More

I stayed in one of the hut while I backpacked around Australia. It was so perfect for me. I looooved falling sleep to the sound of the jungle. I met really wonderful people who were also staying there. Loved that there was a kitchen the guests could use.

We flew into Cairns and drove ourselves the two hours to Sanctuary . The host picked us up from the car park and drove us up the steep dirt track to the actual resort. First impressions were that we really were in the middle of the rain forest. The cabins are well hidden and private. All the staff were amazing... More

The drive to reach Sanctuary is beautiful in itself. It is well signposted but a little of the beaten track I guess. After parking up you call for your ride up to the accommodation. Paul was welcoming and we managed to see a cassowary on that first ride up the hill. The longhouse is just stunning, a total gem in... More

It's not easy to get to but it's worth the effort. The fun starts after you park the car; you can't drive to the door and you certainly can't carry anything much more than a small backpack. You pick up the phone in the shelter and announce your arrival. The 4-wheel drive bus or ute will come and pick up... More

You certainly get the experience of being in the rainforest. The animal and insect sounds when your lying on your bed at night is great. The delux room we had was nice but simple and in my opinion a little bit too pricey. The reception/dining area is great. A cool breeze wofts Through the place and at night the atmosphere... More
