Just spent another night here with Val. Everything just spot on. Great rooms, and lovely breakfast. Short walk into town too and very convenient for the Racecourse. Always know I will get a warmand personal welcome too on return visits....Best in Thirsk!!!

I have now stayed with Val on numerous occasions due to work commitments in the area. The accommodation is second to none, clean, perfect rooms, peaceful and well appointed. Val is the hostess with the most! She goes out if her way to accommodate you, getting up early to do brekkie, helping with directions, and giving the benefit of her... More

I recently stayed at Laburnum House as I attended a City&Guilds decorating course in Thirsk. Val, the owner, was an excellent hostess and made me feel at ease. On arrival, a welcomed greeting and offering of tea and coffee. My room and en suite were spotlessly clean and spacious. Cleaned daily with fresh towels. Breakfast was delicious each morning and... I stayed at Laburnum for 2 nights over a weekend. I tend to choose Guest Houses over larger hotels becasue you are entering the owners' personal domain and they tend to takemore care of that. However, some are still nicer than others. When entering any dwelling, the first thing anyone notices, at some level or another, is the "feel" and... More

I was recently in town to go racing at Thirsk Racecourse and am delighted that I chose to stay at Laburnum House. It is a delightful place, with very clean and comfortable rooms (I was in the York room, which I'm fairly certain had a king size bed and great en suite) and a very helpful and welcoming host in... Val met me at the railway station with a warm welcome, took me back to her B & B and immediately offered me tea and cake. A genuine, friendly Yorkshire lady she made me feel welcome. My room was beautiful, spotlessly clean with good quality bedding and abundant toiletries. Breakfast was excellent, I chose to have it in the kitchen... More

Myself and daughter stayed with Val whilst attending a wedding in Northallerton, the accommodation was modern and immaculate with attention to detail. The breakfast was cooked to perfection, along with greek yoghurt and homemade jams, definitely not a greasy spoon cafe! I was worried what to do with our dog whilst away at the wedding but Val came to the... More

In a situation where I needed to get away and gather my thoughts. Looked at other B and B s in and around the are but kept going back to vals. The hospitality and accommodation is far superior to anything that I have ever stayed at. Val even did my washing ironing etc. and provided me with a packed lunch... More

My wife and I recently stayed for a night at Laburnham House having been guided there by reviews on Trip Advisor. I have to say the excellent reviews are deserved. Val is a warm , no nonsense Yorkshire lass who makes you feel a welcome part of her home from the off. The room was spotless, welcoming and homely, the... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hello my name is Val and I am the proud owner of laburnum house, a deceptively spacious home with contemporary furnishings, overlooking the Hambleton Hills.I am a Yorkshire lass born and bred, and have lived in the area for 55 years so i have good local knowledge. I can recommend places to visit, where to dine, and wonderful walks – as i am a keen walker myself. I am also passionate about Yorkshire! The house is very deceiving from the outside as you will see. There is a new toilet and hand basin downstairs, the guests dining room is large and beautifully furnished, with a fridge, and adjoining the dining room is a new bespoke orangery just finished in time for spring 2013. It is fully furnished with 3 and 2 seater settee and matching armchair and large footstool, 42″ flat TV, Roberts CD/radio player, and also a selection of board games and good reading. There are 3 rooms – 2 double rooms with ensuite, all newly decorated and large flat screen TVs. And a twin room, with remote control Tempur beds and a new bathroom with shower just a few steps over the landing. ... more   less
