We go to Thirsk every year for my birthday and have a day at the races. We have stayed at several B&Bs over the years and due to late booking this year we found accommodation here for two couples at cheaper rates than elsewhere (on race days). Barry the owner was friendly on the phone booking and didn't require a... More

Thank you for availing the room @ a last minute request. Even though we stayed for only a night but we enjoyed how homely and clean the room was. Excellent service, the best part was that it was sincere.💐 Definitely staying over the next time we visit our church Ministry in Topcliffe.👠👠 Kind Regards, Sanday Family👫

Earlier this year I had the pleasure of touring the British Isles with my family. A "must see" for my mother and my aunts and uncles was the town of Thirsk due its associations with the James Herriot books and television series. The St. James House was a quaint and charming place to stay in close proximity to the desired... More

We booked this as part of a month long road trip and we loved staying there. Barry and his helpers couldn't have made us feel more at home. The breakfasts were absolutly the best! Comfortable room too. Highly recommended!

My colleague and I have been staying with Barry for quite a few years now so we can go to the races. The location is ideal just far enough out but within very easy walking distance of the centre. Without fail Barry is always a great host and very helpful. The room is always immaculate and the breakfasts are absolutely... More

We stayed one night b&b on the 20th June 2015. Barry is a very friendly and attentive host with a wealth of local knowledge. He is a most interesting person to talk to and nothing was to much trouble for him. Our room was very clean and comfortable with some beautiful antiques. Our breakfast was lovely and we would recommend... More

This B&B is ideally located, just a lovely couple minutes walk from the James Herriot museum and downtown Thirsk marketplace. If you're a Herriot fan you'll be delighted by Barry's knowledge of the area and his personal experiences with Mr. Herriot. Barry could charge a small fortune for this information, instead he chooses to share it freely with his guests.... More

I spend four nights here in April with a friend. The owner was unfailingly friendly and helpful. He was perfectly happy to let us arrive at close to 11pm. As a keen walker, he was full of useful advice about walks we could do, both locally and throughout the North Yorks Moors. The rooms were clean, comfortable and warm, and... More
