The Chequers, as it's now called, has a lot going for it but unfortunately that all-important management eye for detail is lacking. It's an atmospheric place and looks very inviting from the outside, with its obvious historic facade. And the staff are friendly and they try their best. Sadly the basic infrastructure of the place leaves a lot to be... More

We spent two nights at The Old Coach House in July, whilst supporting a friend who was walking the North Norfolk Coastal Path. Perhaps I am more easily pleased than some reviewers, but a warm welcome, obliging and pleasant staff, excellent service, inspirational food and good value for money, made for a very satisfactory first stay. We will certainly return... More

We wondered why so few people ate here.We dined at the nearby Lifeboat in same ownership. A strange set-up. The restaurant is apparantly part of the Wheelers group implying seafood. The room keys had "Thornham Lifeboat "on the labels. The room bill was in the name of "the Courtyard" Perhaps if this place knew what it was rather than a minor appendage... We ate at The Chequers Inn on 28 August 2014 and found it pretty full. It wasn't warm enough to sit outside. The menu is simple and not a massive choice but what we had was excellent in terms of quality and value. We can't review the accommodation as we didn't stay there.

Pulled up in the overgrown car park avoiding the dead rabbit to enter a shabby restaurant with tables not cleared and dreadful service. The food we had was very poor certainly not to the standard of marco pierre white. Would not recommend at all probably one if the worst experiences I have ever had.

Good accommodation better than previous reviews suggest. The rooms could do with an jupdate, particularly the shower room. Although we didn't eat in the restaurant in the evening the breakfast was excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful, overall a pleasant weekend

Perhaps Marco Pierre White thinks his name alone is enough to get custom through the door and I suppose in some respects this may have been why myself & friends (three other adults and two children) ventured over the threshold. In hindsight we should have been astute enough to pay more attention to the fact that no one was seated... More

Very friendly staff. Starters lovely with great pizza bread. Good steak but sadly completely tasteless pasta with meatballs. Didn't taste even slightly Italian! Just felt like chef had used bottled tomato sauce........ Ambience quite nice and if you have a cushion the benches don't feel quite so uncomfortable. It would probably be good for families with small children as pizzas... More

How can a 'name' like Marco Pierre White be proud to condone food no better than your average neighbourhood family restaurant? Bedroom cramped, bathroom tired and tiny. Staffed by young slightly disinterested amateurs. Wine list looked good but 25% unavailable, but as it turned out, no problem ,because the food wasn't up to much.

Bland and old fashioned, disappointing food. I've had carbonara in lots of Italian restaurants and this was the worst. Service was quick and efficient but we expected more from a Marco Pierre White restaurant. There are plenty of better places at similar or better prices to eat along this stretch of the coast. Don't waste your money!
