Great garlic pizza, enormous and average salad and the mains were both immense and disappointing. My wife's mac cheese with wild mushrooms was delivered without the wild mushrooms and my oxtail ragout was inedible - someone in the kitchen prepping the oxtail needs to understand that the meat needs to be stripped off the bone AND the gristle. My dish... More

Stayed here recently in room 9, for one night midweek, and really couldn't believe that I was in the same place as some of the previous reviewers! The hotel/ pub seems to be run entirely by young ladies who indeed try very very hard. The room was in the attic space and the only critisism was that the shower room... More

We enjoyed this pub last year when it was still the Coach House and ate here a few times and called in for tea time drinkies a few more times and were looking forward to coming back. Was very surprised to find it turned back to the Chequers (original name so that's fine) but nothing else original, Marco Pierre White... More

I organised for my parents to stay at Chequers - including paying in advance. Having to ring 4 times for a confirmation (each time being promised that one was already sent) I got an email confirmation. My parents arrived to an average room with a filthy bathroom. Low and behold the hotel denies my previous payment and charged them again.... More

Went with family as a treat With the name of Marco Pierre White behind it I thought this would be incredible it was but not in a good way! Food was beyond disappointing the service was worst My advice is don't go it's grossly overpriced and we left feeling conned

I quite enjoyed my one night stay at the Chequers Inn in the north Norfolk village of Thornham. Room 1 is ground floor which was ideal as we had our dog with us and adjacent to the car park. Potentially good for wheel chair access although not a fully fitted room for disabilitys. Clean room with white crisp linen and... More

The Chequers, as it's now called, has a lot going for it but unfortunately that all-important management eye for detail is lacking. It's an atmospheric place and looks very inviting from the outside, with its obvious historic facade. And the staff are friendly and they try their best. Sadly the basic infrastructure of the place leaves a lot to be... More

We spent two nights at The Old Coach House in July, whilst supporting a friend who was walking the North Norfolk Coastal Path. Perhaps I am more easily pleased than some reviewers, but a warm welcome, obliging and pleasant staff, excellent service, inspirational food and good value for money, made for a very satisfactory first stay. We will certainly return... More

We wondered why so few people ate here.We dined at the nearby Lifeboat in same ownership. A strange set-up. The restaurant is apparantly part of the Wheelers group implying seafood. The room keys had "Thornham Lifeboat "on the labels. The room bill was in the name of "the Courtyard" Perhaps if this place knew what it was rather than a minor appendage... We ate at The Chequers Inn on 28 August 2014 and found it pretty full. It wasn't warm enough to sit outside. The menu is simple and not a massive choice but what we had was excellent in terms of quality and value. We can't review the accommodation as we didn't stay there.
