5 of us ate in the dining room on a quiet sunday in January. We all chose a roast dinner which was deliciously cooked and presented, excellent service too from a warm and friendly manager.Other diners pizzas looked lovely, we'll try them next time we go.

We stayed here mid-week on business. We were a large group and everyone simply froze. We commented multiple times about the temperature of both the bar and the bedrooms, were told the heating was on but the radiators never changed from freezing cold. My room did have a portable radiator which worked and eventually the room warmed up. Others weren't... More

We went to the Norfolk coast for a couple of days after Christmas with very low expectations after a very disappointing time on the Isle of Wight back in the summer. It came as a shock to find how good things are there, we happened to be greeted by the manager of the chequers with glasses of mulled wine and... More

I hesitated about the overall rating. "Average" seems too low and "very good" is a bit too high. I spent an excellent night there. The Chequers Inn is indeed quaint. The rooms are small because the building is an old inn, but somehow the facilities meet the main requirements of the travellers. For example, two bottles of water were provided... More

The staff here are brilliant, but the Chequers is a long way from living up to the standards expected from a hostelry with Marco Pierre's name above the door.our room was very shaby with a gruby carpet but in itself was clean.the shower was very old.needs a complete return.our dinner on new year's eve served the worst main course I have... we have stayed here before & prefer to stay in the cottage which offers a large bedroom together with a spacious bathroom, bath with shower over. What lets it down, in our opinion, is the breakfast service. Rarely enough staff around & the cooked breakfast my husband ordered this morning had an undercooked egg, 'slimy' bacon, crisp black pudding &... More

Great garlic pizza, enormous and average salad and the mains were both immense and disappointing. My wife's mac cheese with wild mushrooms was delivered without the wild mushrooms and my oxtail ragout was inedible - someone in the kitchen prepping the oxtail needs to understand that the meat needs to be stripped off the bone AND the gristle. My dish... More

Stayed here recently in room 9, for one night midweek, and really couldn't believe that I was in the same place as some of the previous reviewers! The hotel/ pub seems to be run entirely by young ladies who indeed try very very hard. The room was in the attic space and the only critisism was that the shower room... More

We enjoyed this pub last year when it was still the Coach House and ate here a few times and called in for tea time drinkies a few more times and were looking forward to coming back. Was very surprised to find it turned back to the Chequers (original name so that's fine) but nothing else original, Marco Pierre White... More

I organised for my parents to stay at Chequers - including paying in advance. Having to ring 4 times for a confirmation (each time being promised that one was already sent) I got an email confirmation. My parents arrived to an average room with a filthy bathroom. Low and behold the hotel denies my previous payment and charged them again.... More
