The Chequers Inn, Thornham, is a great place to stay. We have stayed once before and we will return. Wonderful friendly staff. Nothing was too much to do for us. Food excellent. Room warm. No shower in room 12, just an attachment that does not fit the taps! So I had a bath! Freshly cooked breakfast so you have to... More

We stayed here looking for a base near the coast for some walking and good food with friends. The Chequers worked for us because it provided both. It was very quiet in the inn, with just a few people staying over, so can't comment on atmosphere when busy. Rooms were ok; clean, warm and comfortable beds. Decor is a puzzle.... More

We booked two rooms as we were going to a wedding locally, the owner is fantastic so friendly and he even offered us a lift to the wedding we were attending, he could not do enough for us, great atmosphere we sat down drank cider and played board games next thing I know he is making us alcoholic milkshakes, (... Our room No. 3 was pleasant enough but the bathroom smelt really badly (a sewage problem), The bar/restaurant has been "modernised" there are all things grey in it now, the comfy seating has gone along with the open fire, on the whole not at all welcoming. The beer was excellent as was the breakfast which made up for it a... More

my husband and I checked out of our room as it was dreadful. We couldn't stay there, as there was mould in the bathroom, there was carpet in the bathroom, which was disgusting. Damp up the walls and on the ceiling. The duvet wasn't big enough and only covered the width of the bed. The furniture and the room was... More

5 of us ate in the dining room on a quiet sunday in January. We all chose a roast dinner which was deliciously cooked and presented, excellent service too from a warm and friendly manager.Other diners pizzas looked lovely, we'll try them next time we go.

We stayed here mid-week on business. We were a large group and everyone simply froze. We commented multiple times about the temperature of both the bar and the bedrooms, were told the heating was on but the radiators never changed from freezing cold. My room did have a portable radiator which worked and eventually the room warmed up. Others weren't... More

We went to the Norfolk coast for a couple of days after Christmas with very low expectations after a very disappointing time on the Isle of Wight back in the summer. It came as a shock to find how good things are there, we happened to be greeted by the manager of the chequers with glasses of mulled wine and... More

I hesitated about the overall rating. "Average" seems too low and "very good" is a bit too high. I spent an excellent night there. The Chequers Inn is indeed quaint. The rooms are small because the building is an old inn, but somehow the facilities meet the main requirements of the travellers. For example, two bottles of water were provided... More

The staff here are brilliant, but the Chequers is a long way from living up to the standards expected from a hostelry with Marco Pierre's name above the door.our room was very shaby with a gruby carpet but in itself was clean.the shower was very old.needs a complete return.our dinner on new year's eve served the worst main course I have...
