In total agreement with all the other very positive comments about this B&B- it really was one of the nicest (actually it was the nicest) we've ever stayed in and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. The food in particular was lovely, and Steven and Julie were genuinely warm and welcoming people. We travelled by train (to Matlock and then... More

We stayed for 2 nights over Sun/Mon and all I can say is wow! I'm sure you've read all the excellent reviews, but we can't stress enough how beautiful this place is. Steven and Julie have painstakingly restored this outstanding building. The room, bathroom, decor, fabrics and finishes are really beautiful. Our house has 'house envy'! It feels so much... More

We had a very warm welcome from Steve and Julie. Our room was exceptionally comfortable with a huge king-sized bed and luxurious bathroom. There is an attractive sitting room to relax in and we had delicious freshly cooked breakfasts,

It's always the little things that make a good stay a great one. Besides the fact that the room & ensuite were just perfect, not to mention the breakfast. Steve & Julie provided a warm welcome along with tea & scones in the garden when we arrived. There was a spare toothbrush available in a handy extras pack(we forgot one... More

We are very happy to add our endorsement to the other 5 star ratings, as this delightful B & B certainly lives up to its billing of one of the best in the UK. We stayed in the Super Kingsize room, where every comfort was provided, along with many thoughtful touches to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The... More

It is easy to see why the Old Shoulder of Mutton is about to get another 5 star rating from us to add to the deserved collection is has gathered to date. From the start to finish this is a fabulous B&B - we stayed in the 'Big Bath' Room - just what you need to soak in after walking... More

It was great to finally meet you after your many attempts to book at the Old Shoulder of Mutton over the last two years. I'm reluctant to apologise for the lack of vacancies:-) You did some huge walks during your stay from our front door - back just in time to see the sun go down - well done. We... More

We stayed for the weekend in the Garden Room. We couldn't have asked for anything better. Great hosts, lovely village, superb breakfast and of course the dales. Would definitely stay here again. The room was all we needed, just watch out for the village clock chiming each hour, not much even Steve and Julie can do about that!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your recent stay at the Old Shoulder of Mutton. Yes you can hear the church clock from the room overlooking the garden which we think adds some rural character. Thankfully the village stopped ringing the curfew bell in the 1960's. I don't tell many people but, I wind the... More

I stayed at the Old Shoulder of Mutton a few weeks ago and had a fantastic weekend. I can't remember the last time I had such a great night's sleep! The food at breakfast was delicious, the village was really quaint and there was a great pub in the village that Steven and Julie booked for us. We arrived late... More

It was a tough ride up from London for you on the Friday evening. Google maps never take account of huge amount of traffic moving north on a Friday evening. Still, you made it in time for dinner at the Old Bowling Green which is a great start to the weekend. Our local 4 pub walk is very popular on... More

Steve and Julie are amazing hosts. There B&B is beautiful and their breakfast superb. They were always happy to help out with anything we requested. The town itself is excellently located in the heart of the Peak District. With a couple of pubs in walking distance.

Thank you for your review Aaron. Winster is a very different place to your home town of London. We have the two pubs in the village but we are down on the night life options that you enjoy. I guess we make up for it with the peace and beauty of the Peak District National Park. More

My four friends and I booked out the whole of the Old Shoulder of Mutton for a special 40th birthday celebration weekend, and we really did have a wonderful time. Steven and Julie were fabulous hosts and they made us feel so welcome. From tea and cake on arrival to booking taxis for us, their attention to detail was second... More

We really enjoyed meeting you all and admire your long established friendship. Then yesterday evening we watched a recorded program on TV and there was one of you in a program on blueberries. We didn't realise we had a celebrity in the house ;~) Hope to see you again in the future. More
