Last visited this establishment in December, 2014 and wanted to return. Wasn't disappointed ! Was invited by friends, and the party of 7 of us had a most enjoyable lunch served by super staff with excellent ambience. Excellent selection of real ales and the food is extremely good. highly recommended.

The John Thompson in Melbourne has a unique vista overlooking the South Derbyshire countryside, it is always a must when we visit Melbourne. Its offering of carvery lunches and good choice of real ales to accompany your meal certainly cuts the mustard in my view. The home made puddings just like mum used to make are exceptional, if you strike... More

We met friends here just after New Year and thoroughly enjoyed our lunchtime visit to this great pub. The beef carvery was delicious and very good value - you have a choice of small or large portions. All of us also enjoyed the home-made puddings - either apple crumble or bread and butter pudding. Staff were very friendly and helpful... More

Literally just got in from this pub and had to write a glowing report....... I will keep it short, staff were super, friendly, attentive and happy. Carvery was just amazing, nothing over the top, but what a goo carvery should be. If you have a cold or bunged up head may I suggest a dollop of what must have been... More

We visit here quite regularly on a Sunday lunch for their carvery and are never disappointed. Proper delicious home cooked food with generous portions and traditional Sunday puds like apple crumble or bread pudding. A lovely cosy pub atmosphere and polite staff. Excellent!

We dropped in for Sunday lunch today to be greeted very warmly by a very helpful owner and he's staff. My husband and children had the Sunday roast while I had the vegetarian risotto we then had desserts, all of which was delicious. Our boys and my husband really raved about the carvery and I have to say the veggie... More

Our neighbours are constantly telling us how good the JT is,so we decided to see for ourselves, and we were not disappointed, when we arrived it was very busy but it didn't take long to get a table,we had the roast beef carvery which can only be described as delicious and generous portions and good value for money. Somewhere we will definitely... More

I had lunch in this pub as part of a group of about 40 ramblers. Despite the number, our meals were served acceptably quickly and mine at least was very enjoyable. I even had a dessert, which I don't usually in pubs. It was a very warm day, but as I was driving I could unfortunately sample only one of... More

My wife and I make for the 'JT' a lot. It always has a nice, relaxing atmosphere (free of stupid, thumping, inappropriate music), and the food and beer are the best you're likely to find. Plenty of parking spaces, too.
