We stayed for the weekend, planning on long walks and lazy evenings and things worked out just great. The location of the pub meant we could do a brilliant 12 mile walk up and over Stanage Edge and back along the River Derwent without having to drive, the bar was cosy when we got back and relaxed about muddy boots... Came for dinner on Saturday evening and had a very enjoyable meal. Staff were pleasant and knowledgeable and the wine and beer was lovely. My husband had the gammon and eggs which he rated highly and i had the cod with chicory and lentils. The fries were lush. Would recommend this to anyone wanting a nice uncomplicated meal in nice... We went to the Plough for an evening meal during the recent very bad snow. The staff were very helpful, and one waiter even came out to the car (through a foot of snow) to check everything was ok because we'd parked and sat there for a few minutes. The food we had was really nice and the beer was... More

This is a difficult review to write, I had so many hopes for eating in this place. My wife and I had often driven by and noticed how full the car park was so we decided to go there for a meal. We ordered a steak each. It came on some sort of wooden plinth with a slate (totally unnecessary... More

Felt unwelcome because only wanted a pint after a walk. Not a pub for walkers unless you need a meal. I was the only person present at 2:30pm and felt as though i was intruding, the owener/landlord just didn't want to enter into conversation.

We stayed here 2 nights. The food, accommodation and service all were first class. The inn has won several rewards recently and one can see why. We particularly like the open log fires. I recommend it without hesitation

Lovely food excellent service and surroundings. Owner really accomodating we literally just rolled up and were seated and served within 15 minutes. I opted for a 'lite lunch' of pan fried field mushrooms with Stilton and Waldorf salad and crusty bread-delicious. My husband had Lasagne it must have been good he just ate it all!!! Normally a dessert person, there... More

Just spent a long weekend staying here. The Landlord of this family pub/B&B couldn't have been more welcoming. He even gave us a lift to another town when we were having transport problems. We ordered a takeaway from a neighbouring restaurant one evening (wiped out from very long day's hiking). A member of night staff came to our room with... More

We arrived unexpectedly to find the place was busy. We asked for a table for 2 which the gentleman behind the bar who looked to be in charge was more than happy to help. I had the leek and smoked haddock soup which was very tasty and was served with a poached egg. The Seabass was amazing along with my... More

Sunday lunch today, March 3rd. Six of us made a late phone booking for lunch and were not disappointed. Being shown to our table immediately, we settled in. Drink orders placed & served quickly (and the Black Sheep beer is excellent!). We chatted, ordered our food and waited. A short while later (about 30mins) the food arrived, and it looked... More
