We have travelled to Catleton many times for day trips, but this was the first time we stayed overnight. I am glad we booked only one night instead of two! We booked the Cheshire Cheese Inn as the website photos looked warm and inviting. In reality our room was tiny and the bathroom was the worst I have ever experienced... more

Stayed three nights, Room spacious, bed comfortable, large room, tiny but clean functional en suite. The staff were welcoming upon arrival then friendly and helpful throughout our stay. There is a good range of beers to choose from and the menu was across a good range. Every meal we had was well presented and tasty. There is a dining room... more

Stayed here during august bank holiday weekend. Walm welcome when checking in. Stayed in room 5 which wasnt very big but very homely and comfortable. Also very clean. Ate our evening meal here and we both thought it was one of the best meals we'd ever had, bit pricey, but well worth it. Drinks wise, again abit pricey but we... more

Recently stayed at the Cheshire Cheese for three nights. Room 5 is very small with a tiny bathroom (more like a wardrobe). Views out over rear yard area. Had dinner the first night, usual pub food, rather expensive and not particularly good, went to the Bulls Head for the other two nights which is far better. Breakfast usual 'All English'... more

We visit Castleton for several weeks each year with our two junior school kids and there is no doubt that this pub & restaurant provides consistently the best evening meals in the village. Not the cheapest, but good value for money, and always superb. There are two separate eating areas, families and adults only. We don't stay there, and so... more

We stayed in room 3 which as other reviewers have noticed has only a small skylight that is some how mouldy and an "ensuite" bathroom that is very small and is only seperated from the main room by a slatted sliding door; for the price it is pretty poor. The level of customer service from some of the staff is... more

We had booked in to another Inn in Castleton, only to find on arrival (after a nightmare journey) that it was locked, and nobody was answering the bell or the phone. So, unwilling to sit in the car park for who knows how long, we wandered thirty yards down to street to see if 'Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese' had any... more

The service at Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Inn was excellent. It is in an ideal location with the centre of the village only a few minutes walk away, the surrounding area is very picturesque. Unfortunately we were disappointed with the room because there was no view, the window was frosted glass and if you did open the window you would... more

My partner and I went to Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese for Sunday lunch with her son who is Studying at Sheffield. (15 March 2009) We had the 'Sunday Roast' from the menu. I can quite honestly say that this was one of the worst meals I have had in recent years. The beef was tough, it probably had been pre-cooked... more
