Gorgeous timber frame building, warm and cosy bar with good ale selection. Traditional pub grub. Comfortable stay with a lovely welcoming atmosphere. Ample free parking opposite. Remarkably quiet night's sleep given it's on a fairly main road. Good location for access to rest of Castleton pubs, restaurants and attractions. Beds were a little on the soft side but clean, well... More

A group of 10 of us visited on Sat 27th April for an evening meal. Table was booked with ease over the phone and they had no trouble accommodating our large group. Bar staff were polite and friendly - only issue we had was that when we told them we'd got a table booked they didn't tell us the table... More

I took my rambling group to this pub (12 people),we were made very welcome by the staff. The choice of real ale was excellent and the bar snacks we had were very good, the pub has a lot character and has a olde world feel about it.

We called in here for a pint after a busy day touring the area. It was recommended by our guide at the Treak Cliff Cavern nearby. Located in the centre of Castleton. Parking on the road nearby. The road through the village is narrow and busy, so take care. There are 6 pubs in Castleton and it's only a small... More

Stayed here recently (my husband had confused this inn with the Cheshire Cheese Inn in Hope down the road where we had intended to stay because it is great) -- do not make our mistake! Friendly staff and old/traditional pub, but: - food very average (in evening, we asked for rare steak - knowing it would be slightly overcooked anyway,... More

We drove through the village a couple of times before settling on this pub, late afternoon during the Easter holidays. You are spoilt for choice for pubs in Castleton, but Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese stood out. The pub has a welcoming facade. Inside it is kitted out with quality (Axminster?) carpets and comfortable chairs. It has the feel of a... More

My husband & I stayed in room 7 the most expensive £95 per night, which is really expensive for the quality of this room, the room was nice, four poster bed, the linen &towels very clean, the rest of the room was quite dusty. One of the mugs was chipped, had to ask for a toilet roll, very mean with... More

We arrived in Castleton on Friday afternoon, 15 March 2013, to stay at the Hollowford (outdoor) Centre for our church's Weekend Away (great bible teaching from the wonderful Alec Motyer). We went to the Cheshire Cheese to have a drink and use the WiFi to Skype with our son in Abu Dhabi. As we arrived, we realised that we hadn't,... More

We stayed here for two nights and had really great break. The hotel is a lovely old building and the pub was always busy whilst we were there. Our room was quite small, especially the bathroom which required careful planning when you wanted a shower! The food was good but not exceptional, breakfast in particular was at best ok. The... More
