Stayed here for one night on a short business trip. Have to admit I had read the reviews prior to travelling and was not looking forward to it. However, when I arrived the check in staff were excellent, very friendly. Yes it is a little tired, however, that evening in the bar I ran into the new owners. They had... More

Stayed here on a Saturday night in August, the location is not the best, right on the main street and next door to a 24hr garage so it was noisy with traffic, drunks and the garage pumps running all night. Admittedly the location is not their fault but some double glazing to reduce sound would not go amiss. Noise levels... More

Overnight stay, room 11, in August. The room was dusty, bathroom had mould on walls, broken hooks on the door, barely functioning shower and was in need of a good clean generally. Room 11 is opposite the 24 hour garage which was noisy and busy all night as would be expected but no double glazing to block out the noise... More

The 'hotel' is a little jaded & is in need of a revamp however the bedroom is very clean generally although some cobwebs on the ceiling. Bathroom very clean but dissapointed with one sachet of shampoo which was not replaced after I'd used it!

We stayed at The Lion for one night whilst attending a wedding at nearby Shottle Hall. Discounts were given for the rooms and several members of the wedding party stayed there. Check in was very easy and the young lad very helpful. The hotel had in fairness, turned the rooms around quickly to allow us all to check in before... More

Is now called "pub with rooms" - even though you can see the outline of the word "hotel" where the external sign was removed. It's okay as it goes for a pub with rooms.. and it is just that - A pretty reasonable pub with rooms. The Makeney Hall Hotel nearby can be booked for only a tenner or so... More

Finally Sold Heard this place has been sold, thanks god! I had lunch last month and it was terrible, service slow, receptionist rude and the whole place needs a good clean! I used to love the Lion, but it’s pretty much ran down hill. The current owners don’t care about the place and now it can be loved once again... More

A nice, Grade II pub, very handily, right in the middle of Belper with free parking and a warm welcome at reception. We had paid extra for a "King-bed room" and the bed was excellent with a great mattress. The room was in need of a spruce up and the plumbing was noisy. Not sure how much can be done... More

The Lion pubs with rooms is exactly what it says it is!! Lovely welcoming bar, even the locals are talkative! Ate in the restaurant on the first evening and took advantage of the special offer for residents and enjoyed a succulent, well cooked steak with all the trimmings. Service was a little slow but only 2 staff working that evening.... More

We only stayed one night as we were attending a wedding reception nearby. The room was a good size with a comfortable bed and we had no trouble sleeping, except when the traffic started the next morning. In the middle of summer, being warm we needed to have the window open and as the pub is on the main road... More
