My boyfriend and I stayed here one night whilst in the peak district, it happened to be valentines night and on booking they told us that if we wanted to eat in their restaurant we would have to book a table and the only table available was 6 oclock. As we do not know the area and suspected that any... More

The Bear has always been a good choice for us in the past for a pleasant, simple night out. However the recent (Valentines) night out probably means we won't be heading back any time soon. Previously we have always enjoyed a simple 'Pub' night out - good beer, decent pub food and simple, clean, comfortable eclectic rooms to crash out... More

I visited here on recommendation. I have to say its the best Carvery I have ever been to with a wider selection of roasts and more vegetable and condiment selections. Im visiting again for my birthday meal. Also the staff were really friendly.

We stayed here for New Year's Eve with some friends of ours who had stayed previously. The pub itself is very quaint and the staff were friendly during the evening. However the room and bathroom were absolutely Baltic! I had read previous reviews stating this but didn't realise it would be quite that cold. We found a heater in the... More

Fab pub grub and lovely restaurant food too so take your prick, great beers, real fires and lovely rooms in the hotel. A special place to stay for a weekend away, and Wirksworth is definitely worth a visit as is Carsington Water.

I took my wife, son and his partner to The Bear for lunch on Boxing Day. The place was buzzing with a fire blazing and everyone obviously happy to be there. The carvery lunch was superb with the Roast Lamb perfectly cooked. Elmer served us and was most friendly and helpful. The bar had a good range of beers and... More

Quirky hotel/pub, originally a coaching house but we had a great 3 night stay. Absolutely no urban light. Pitch black at night! Friendly staff. Breakfast excellent and freshly cooked to order. They do evening meals as well but we were too busy seeing the sights to fit them in! Out in the wilds of no-where but wouldn't have changed it.... More

We visited for Sunday lunch a couple of weeks ago and were pleased to see that the usual high standards of welcome, atmosphere and particularly the food were all just as good as our last visit. The pub is a sympathetic blend of the original building with a log fire and lots of alcoves with tables and a larger open... More

We stayed overnight on a family trip. Beautiful warm cottages. Had evening meal, friendly staff. The starters and main course were amazing, no room left for puddings. The fresh cooked breakfast in the morning was beautifully cooked. Will visit again.

Wwe stayed as we were attending a nearby wedding. The staff were great and helped us with taxis and keeping he bar open. The beer on tap is great and the log stove is fab. Breakfast is also very tasty! Our room (room 5) was a bit shabby and lacked the overall character of the rest of the inn. The... More
