The last time I visited The Bear I felt it was focused on serving superb food well in a wonderful country pub atmosphere. This was something it seemed to pride its reputation on. Today, it felt as though it had crammed as many people in as possible, with as little attention to the actual experience of dining as there could... More

This could be perfect if the staff were replaced! Everyone but the chef serving the carvery were very dismissive, unhelpful and unprofessional. Taking my order without making eye contact with me but managing to call one of your colleagues who hasn't put her name down for Sunday's for the foreseeable future is not the type of service I expect! The... More

It was out second visit to this wonderful cosy pub, roaring log fire, quaint cosy rooms, great for intimate meal or large family meal. Both times, there was a large group so we were put into a booth, which is perfect. Great food, great drinks, great service - can't fault it! The desert menu is a bit unusual, with three... More

Thankfully we booked in advance as it got really busy later on. Our table was in the older part of the inn so it was a bit of a walk to the carvery, through a busy bar and up a couple of steps which made it a bit awkward for our 85 yr old mother whose birthday it was. Having... More

Another fabulous carvery for myself and my friends. Excellent food and service. My only "better if" comment is that the knifes could be a little sharper.. certainly not a reflection on the excellent roast beef that was served, but a serated or steak knife would have been very useful...I'm sure they would provide them if asked. This is by far... More

The staff were without exception lovely. The food and the beer were good, the rooms in the pub extremely cozy, the bedroom was fine. If the weather hadn't been diabolical, I'm certain the views would have been exceptional. Shame that our satnav had problems finding it- deprived us of 20 minutes at this delightful place.

Visited on Sunday and had Cavery. Ended up seated in bar but there were loads of other better tables not marked as reserved so not sure what happened there. Great choice for meat eaters but less so for vegetarians. Was also made to queue up with veggie option on plate on hands with other Cavery eaters so food went cold.... More

Food average. Veg frozen and therefore watery.....however the service was slow....and the waitress/bar staff were rude, miserable and need to learn some manners....! Didn't even clear our plates when we had finished! Won't be going again for a while.....

Went for Sunday carvery, it was excellent value for money..without a doubt I would return, definitely recommend booking on a sunday as it was quite busy. The choice of meat was outstanding and the veg was very fresh. Well worth a visit

Excellent Carvery, 4 choices of meat and available rare, medium and well done. Large selection of vegetables and potatoes available. The staff were nice and accommodating and the setting was wonderful. A must try if your in the area.
